2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet convertible SUV leaked

The Mercedes-Maybach G550 4x4 Landaulet has been teased and leaked ahead of its debut.

On the weekend Mercedes-Benz shared a photo (bottom) on its Facebook page revealing the rear of a G-Class convertible, and titled with the description: "First we built the G63 AMG 6x6 – Now the ultimate off-roader has another surprise up its sleeve. Stay tuned..."

The tail end of the car's number plate reads "G 6501" hinting that the new model will be badged as the G650, and will likely be powered by a version of the 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo petrol engine used in the AMG G65.

This official teaser picture was followed up earlier this week by photos and videos by Auto.Mail.ru, which, if genuine, shows off the latest in a long line of developments for the rugged off-roader that dates back to 1979.

The leaked photo and video show a white G-Class with a stretched wheelbase, Maybach badging and carbon-fibre wheel arch extensions.

Most importantly there's a folding canvas roof that covers much of the vehicle from the just behind the B-pillar, and allows the rear seat passengers to enjoy an alfresco luxury off-roading experience. The Landaulet still features a solid metal roof over the driver and front passenger.

According to the Russian auto website, just 99 copies of the G650 Landaulet will be produced.
