2017 Nissan X-Trail facelift in Australia from May

New looks and boosted safety for mid-sized SUV

The updated 2017 Nissan X-Trail, unveiled in September last year as the US market's Rogue, will make its Australian debut in May.

The Japanese car maker's local arm has yet to formally announce its launch plans, although a form on its customer website confirms we'll see the new-look X-Trail here soon.

When it arrives, the updated X-Trail will bring a new front-end design with a larger interpretation of Nissan's familiar 'v-motion' grille, along with new stepped headlights above a reshaped front bumper that drives below the new grille.

Changes at the rear are more subtle, limited to new darkened tail-lamp lenses and a new hooked LED lighting signature.

The 2017 X-Trail will carry over its existing powertrains and mechanical package, but Nissan Australia has confirmed we'll see "state-of-the-art Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies".

This likely means the adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection that Nissan confirmed with the updated X-Trail when it was revealed.

Watch for details on the updated X-Trail to come in the weeks ahead.
