Wheels are pretty nice, but the front end is too fussy, too many things going on. Hopefully in it’s update it is sorted out.

04 model, yes. And Forester’s aren’t about the styling. They are in my top 5 vehicles ever, great, honest cars.

Theo child, how does the styling of a car have anything to do with suiting the Australia’n lifestyle?

That’s just a blatant lie, made by a Subaru employee, trying in desperation to sell a mediocre, ugly, unreliable and expensive product.

The Captiva, as we all know, is the best selling SUV in the country.

Not only that, but by buying a Captiva, people are actually supporting our local industries, not like the few who buy this crappy thing.

Patriot, only the Commondore is the true Australian car. Captiva, Viva,Barina are just Daewoo rebadged, and I don’t think it’s a best selling SUV in the country otherwise Holden would have said that on their ad. From what I’ve heard from the Captiva owners they are not that reliable nor economical. I wouldn’t spend my 30k hard earning on a car just to show my support the local industry unless its’ quality and reliablity, maintenance cost, after sale service..etc.. are equal or better than the import.

The Forester is not that expensive compare to other compact SUVs but maintenace cost and parts (after the warranty) are quite expensive. I agree with you the Captiva is better looking than the Forester, but the Forester have much better re-sale value.

              Patriot,

The Forester IS the best selling SUV in Australia (at least from January to November 2009). The Captiva was the best selling model for ONE MONTH.

As the saying goes, the worst blind is the one that doesn’t want to see. But you wouldn’t think anything apart from Holden exists, anyway. Maybe Fords, who knows.

Theo, the Beetle was one of the ugliest cars ever (even the advertisers admit it!) but it became the greatest selling car of all time. Most people loved it because of that. A car can be ugly and still get lots of sales.

Reminds me of the late 80’s when Nissan brought out the Reebok Pulsar.

Thought this would have come out about 3 years ago when the Columbia Cycling team were using subie support vehicles, shows how slow the aussie market is.

To those who are saying that there’s to many things going on at the Forester’s front end, well take a look at the front end of the brand new Hyundai Tucson and compare it to the Forester’s. There’s definitely a lot of things going on with Tucson’s one!

We just sold our captiva for a forester. The captiva was litterly falling to pieces; the front bumper had come loose, the stitching in the rear seats was coming undone, and the air conditioning didn’t produce cold air… So we got it fixed under warranty and cut our losses and got a forester. It’s much easier to drive, and more fun! (got the XT), the steering is awesome, and the outside looks very modern, but the only thing I don’t like is the interior illumination…. Overall we’ve very happy with it, and we hope we have it for many years to come. This Columbia seems like good value, but I’m glad we got the xt.
