FPV Falcon GS launched in New Zealand

By Matt Brogan |

FPV have announced that the popular limited edition Falcon GS will be made available for purchase in New Zealand within the next week.

FPV’s GS Sedan is individually-specced to provide a combination of GT-based 302kW V8 engine performance, FPV chassis enhancements, bespoke GS graphics and FPV driver comfort features.

With only 10 of the limited edition vehicle earmarked for New Zealand, the new FPV GS Series model harks back to the original Falcon GS of 30 years ago, introduced with the XW-model of 1969 and now the second most collectable Ford Falcon behind the GT.

“GS is another iconic badge in Ford’s family history,” FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“Our aim is to develop a model that provides the performance, prestige and individuality that is a signature of the FPV brand, with its own identifiable model personality and all at a great price.

“We’ve achieved all of that and expect the new GS will find its own place in performance motoring folklore.”

Like its namesake from three decades ago, the new FPV GS Series offers a long list of options that include a FPV-spec 4-pot Brembo brake upgrade, a six-speed auto transmission recalibrated specifically for the GS 302kW engine, leather seats and sat-nav.

The FPV GS Sedan is priced at NZ$71,490 for both the automatic and manual transmissions. The utility will not be made available to NZ customers.

Now that the GS is ‘over the dutch’, how many does that leave us Aussies?

  • Andrew M

Gee dont they pay through the backside for it.

    Thats 85K aussie dollars!!!!

Funny how when a Commodre gets exported it gets cheaper, yet The Falcon appears to get dearer

Don’t know where you are getting your Kiwi dollars exchanged Andrew M but I work it out to $57,333 Aussie.

Ha ha yeah I realised after I did the math that I exchanged it the wrong way

I think Andrew M, you need to revise your year 2 maths. But, to be fair, if you give me 85000 AUD, I will quite happily give you 75000 NZ. You can keep the extra? for a maths refresher course.

  • Reality Check

Someone has their wires crossed, the G.S. has been available for some time in New Zealand allready, another excuse to make a press release for Ford Australia ?

The exchange rate is of course about 80 cents Australian = $1 N.Z so taking into account the extra shipping, about $1,500 and the extra 2.5% G.S.T. in N.Z. (total 12.5%), for a vehicle with an Australian price of about $54,000, they should be N.Z. $70,725, bingo !!, almost exactly what they are.

Things get more interesting for the F6E for Kiwi buyers though, which at just shy of $A80,000 should translate to just over $104,000 Kiwi, but they’re just $87,990 a real “relative” bargain. Trouble is most Kiwi’s don’t think too much of their relatives who try and sell them sooped up Falcon’s for just shy of $90,000 so I predict an interesting stand-off between FPV enthusiasts and Ford N.Z. regarding that particular vehicle notwithstanding the somewhat anomolous pricing situation.

They have been on sale in NZ since October at least. I’ve seen 3 advertised by dealers for NZ$71,490.
