The Passat CC has been given the R-Line package in Europe, giving it a sportier look which is offered on seven other Volkswagen models. Disappointingly it is only cosmetic, its performance is the same as the standard Passat CC.

The R-Line treatment consists of 17 inch “Mallory” alloy wheels with an option of 18 inch as well as changes to the front spoiler with fog lights, side skirts and smoked taillights, the Park Pilot system is also standard.

The interior of the Passat CC R-Line has a three spoke leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, R-Line aluminium sill plates, sports seats and climate control .

All Passat CC engines are available with the R-Line package and includes a six speed gearbox.

I don’t think it’s dissapointing that it’s only a cosmetic upgrade. It just follows the same formula as the M Sport or S Line packs. They are simply to make your car look sportier. And that they do.
I think this looks great and the Passat CC is such a good car anyway that I don’t think a power upgrade is really necessary. I think I would honestly rather one of these over a 3 Series.

Adding cosmetic changes and calling it an ‘R’ gives no credibility to the brand. Looking sporty and acting the part should be synonymous. But I guess VW must know its customers who must be intrigued by appearance but having no depth.

I loved the cc until I drove it. uncomfortable and cheap feeling inside, which was really disappointing. On top of that the ride was hard and I didnt like the steering, and even though the acceleration stats have it as being super quick (the 6 cyl) it didnt feel like that, though doing 100kph on the freeway felt like 160kph, though that might have been brand new tyres on the demo. Very underwhelming, given high expectations from the beautiful exterior. I think this car is far better on paper than it is to drive.

I drove one two months and quite liked it. I preferred the diesel over the V6 because the six felt nose heavy and as you said the steering felt oddly weighted. The exterior and interior both felt and looked superb, but i didnt like the drive.

I drove it a few weeks back and the interior is top notch and it was omega comfortable. The steering can be a little bit more responsive but it simply accomplishes the tasks it is designed to do superbly. Those tasks being comfortable while sporty at the same time.

Peter, according to you the passat CC pretty much fail as a car……and I’m afraid you are wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but your comment is way off. I think you are too young for this car….should stick with your dodgy 500kw WRX with 1000 decibels fart can.

Too old it is Hayzel. I think I had high expectations and it didnt meet them. It was nowhere near as good as the car I was looking to trade, which was $15K cheaper. It was for my wife, who thought it was ordinary too. The interior was just tacky. That said, if it was a $50 – $55K car, it’d be good value and an OK drive. I’d consider it over a mondeo, I suppose.

no, a volvo. Really, these things are great on paper – in fact on paper they are a better proposition than plenty of $120K euros – 0 – 100 in 5.5, paddles, nappa leather, looks brilliant, AWD, which was why I was all excited about getting one for the missus. Over the internet the interior looked good too. Then driving it was the biggest let down I’ve had all year. Cramped, uncomfortable, cheap plastic everywhere, except for the aluminium which reflects in your eyes, the screen looks like it is off an Amstrad comuter and you cant see it when the sun is near it, the ride is hard, I didnt like the shifts (that’d be just me, people love the DSG), it seemed to wobble on the road at speed (could have been new tyres), and the steering was strange. Then it didnt actually feel that quick anyway, and I wasnt leaving people in my smoke as it were, so I would have thought the speed was mid sixes (not that my missus would have cared). Handles fine, looks great (black was my fave), but my expectations from reading reviews and stats were just way too high, and I was let down (sob!) especially after having worked on the missus for ages to take one, when she wasnt keen on a 4 seater anyway. All that wheedling was wasted.

So, name a $120K car that’s a better proposition? What about a car that’s similarly priced that’s a better proposition?

Your first sentence states that “…they are a better proposition than plenty of $120K euro’s…”, however you state a list of negatives that pretty much leaves one wondering whether walking would be a better option?

Where were you going with “…it seemd to wobble on the road and the steering was strange…” to then “…Handles fine…”??

Seriously, you sound like a guy who was dead-set on buying one, found out they wouldn’t haggle the extra $0.02 and you left disgruntled cause you couldn’t afford it?

            says:

$120K cars – try BMW 335 (only 2 doors), Jag XF (not as quick, much better inside and out, far better badge), Audi s5, A6. For similar price, Volvo s40T5 (in fact, 10K cheaper) probably better badge but looks not so good and not as quick, interior nicer, has 5 seats. CC did handle (corner) fine, roundabouts fine, but the steering was strange, and then it wobbled on the road at 100kph in a straight line. And no, I never got to the haggling stage, we didnt like it, and wouldnt buy something we didnt like even if it was cheap. I could have got a demo for $65K from NSW, and was happy enough with the $75K or thereabouts price for new when I was looking at them coz it seemed like a bargain. Obviously plenty of people like them. I wish we had liked it, because as I say, on paper they are a great car and I would have bought it in a snap if it had grabbed us.

Andrew M – I was simply trying to be one of these idiots (by not backing-up my comment on anything) who comment randomly, but it seems you even attack one of your own! Worse still, you’re attacking me for my opinion (that the Passat CC is ugly – especially from the rear) with your opinion (that Skodas aren’t attractive) despite the fact that I think my Octavia RS (which has just clocked 25,000 trouble-free and endless-smiling kms) is an attractive car. Both brands are VW Group (maybe theres a theme going on and a lesson – they need to build better looking cars. Take a look at Seat for God’s sake)…

        Hayzel – Bias to what?

          says:

Bias to whatever you call a good looking car in your “opinion”. A comment that is based on only opinion (which is always the case in subject of appearance) of a specific individual will almost always be bias.

the passat isnt the prettiest car either, but it would turn heads no doubt!

I havn’t driven the CC, but I know from previous experience with with both the R32 and R36, they don’t feel fast. But they’re not neccesarily meant to. It’s a bit like driving 3.0l BMW 6. Even an E46 M3 doesn’t “feel” that fast, while you’re driving.

      says:

(assuming you are picking up from my comment) – yeah it is the acceleration that doesnt feel fast, and it didnt seem to be blowing away other cars either, so I thought on balance it probably wasnt that fast – not 5.5 second fast, which is pretty quick – much quicker than 90% of cars on the road. At 100kph though, it felt like you were going way over the limit – like well over 100 plus feels in a performance car

Maybe it’s designed that way. Since it’s basically not a sports car so speed is not really that much of an issue as long as the power is there on tap and the engine is smooth. More like making love to a virgin which is a bit of an oxymoron, definitely exciting and well presented but lacking in some “excitement”. Personally I prefer sports car….

Peter, I think your totally wrong. You must have been burnt by the trade in value on your current car and it has clearly upset you. JOHN MANTELLO, a man that has trained myself, owns many dealerships and is not short on cash Bought, Drives and LOVES a Passat CC TDI……
AS a very lucky man, I have driven most the vehicles you have spoken about and without doubt the CC Measures up perfectly for half the price. It wouldn’t have won best luxury vehicle in Australia if it wasn’t any good.
I suggest, when you purchase your next vehicle, Do not buy Jaguar, Saab or Volvo unless you want to be stung by trade in value down the track.
Basically, stop rubbishing a Car just because you couldn’t afford it!!!!

you’re kidding, right? Are you a salesman or something, worried that the comments might cruel a sale or two? Look, I loved the car on paper. I drove it, and it didnt impress me. It impressed my wife less. Trade ins didnt come into it at all, it. Price didnt come into it – I didnt get past the test drive. I’m tired of this – I’ve responded to some pretty insulting posts with a straight bat and I’m not going to be baited into responding any further – if someone drives this car and likes it, good on them. I drove it and didnt, I thought it was very average, and no puerile attempt at cross examination or justification on your part isnt going to change that.

my G6E currently runs 396 flywheel kW and 807Nm of torque. 4 kW shy away from 400! DAMN!
The car was tuned by @#$#@@#### @#@#%$R%$ and i am enjoying everything about it.

I have also upgraded it to FPV 6 spot front calipers, 4 spot rears , its lowered.
I have tested it and it does 0-400m in 10.6s 0-100km/h in 3.8s flat. You just have to be happy with 341rwkW for under $50000 including the tuning! and i mean just the ECU tune and 3psi increase in BOOST, with stock turbo/inter cooler/engine!

I have owned the passat cc v6 all wheel drive
for 3 weeks now with every option listed
I have owned many different cars before from high end prestige to average cars and I must admit this car is an exellent package
The ride simply adjusts from sport to comfort
DSG Gearbox faster changing than any auto in the world
BMW 3 series is just African built rubbish
That does not even come close
The passat cc is built in Germany in a state of the art factory
As for 0-100kms 5.3sec is obtained by using launch control a technique which is required in a DSG equipped vehicle to obtain quicker times.
As far as standard features that come with the car do the math and you will see why this car comes out on top.
Quality is of a high standard
As far as vibrations at high speed in the demo car you where driving may have been mistreated and needed a wheel balance/alingment
This car does drive very smooth.
This car in my opinion performs better in real life
    Than on paper
A 5th seat is now optional for those who need it but I prefer the the 4 seater because of extra compartment and cup holders in middle seat
