2018 Toyota Prius C confirmed for Australia
Australia's Toyota Prius C will see a styling and safety update later in 2017, CarAdvice can reveal.
The updated 2018 Toyota Prius C revealed in the US earlier this week will be offered locally in the latter part of the year, bringing with it revised styling and new alloy wheels.
The front-end sees a renewed fascia, while there are new side skirts, a new rear bumper design and a blacked out rear spoiler, all of which combines to give the car "a big infusion of sporty attitude", according to Toyota.
In the US, the Prius C will be offered on alloy wheels in all grades, and it's expected that'll be the case here, too. Currently, the base model Prius C has 15-inch steel wheels, where the higher-grade i-Tech has 15-inch alloys. We'd expect 16s on the high-spec here, and 15s on the lower grade, if the brand retains the same twin-model line as current.
A new safety system is expected to be offered on the high-spec model as standard, and it includes autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic high-beam headlights. The standard LED headlights on both models are expected to go unchanged.
Also unlikely to see any change is the drivetrain in the Prius C, a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid that offers a maximum power output of 74kW, and combined fuel consumption of 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres. It can run on electricity only for short stints, up to 40km/h.
The interior appears to have seen some tweaks based on the image of the US-spec version on the company's press site, with the inclusion of a new media system (the same seen in the Corolla) and perhaps some new trims here and there.
Toyota Australia has advised that there's little information to be added at this point in time, but that it plans to offer more details in the lead-up to the facelifted Prius C launching here in the latter part of 2017.
