Substantial power gains and/or efficiencies are realised by better fuel combustion with this technology. Why do you think long term effect of DI is dubious? Engines are engineered to cope with the additional power provided by DI. The only problems seem to be when bad or lower than recommended octane fuel is used. Isn't this just a modified version of the 2.0L 4cyl that has being powering everything small in the Volkswagen group?
