Lexus allocates five LFA supercars for Australia

By George Skentzos |

Lexus Australia has confirmed that it has secured a limited run of just five LFA supercars for the local market.

With only 500 examples of the 413kW supercar to be sold worldwide, it is remarkable that Australia has been allocated any at all, surprising even Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Roca.

“The fact that Australia has been allocated any LFA vehicles is testament to the importance of the Australian arm of the global Lexus brand.” said Mr Roca.

As the most exclusive and powerful Lexus in Australia, the brand is expecting the LFA to be in high demand – with the only hurdle being how to allocate the five cars.

“Our next challenge is managing the allocation process – we are already certain that we will not have enough LFAs to fulfil demand,”

The final five lucky customers will have to wait until as late as 2012 to get behind the wheel though, with production of the LFA due to commence in 2010 and run for two years, with 20 hand-built vehicles delivered each month to customers globally.

    Lucky five people

  • Brad

The LFA is on Top Gear season 14 episode 7.. once it airs that is =)

  • Tom21

a supercar so pointless i cant even care.

    • The Real Car Fanatic

No supercar is pointless, only people who are of the opinion they are useless.

      • Tom21

A $400,000 USD Toyota is useless, its twice the price of a 458 Ferrari.

        But yeah buddy, nice opinion.

        • Tomas79

With stupid logic such as that, I bet you can’t even afford one!!

And you cared to click to view this page and even replied….

      • Joker

hehe…exactly Tim. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing this thing belted on TG. For some reason, I find this car gorgeous.

    • The Realist

Please advise what you drive. Bentley? Ferrari?

  • Baddass

    I thought it had 420KW?

  • Snowy

    None for new Zealand then?
Tom21 what has this got to do with toyotas?

    • commy

until only 4 years ago they where all branded Toyotas in their homeland.
Even on the Australian Lexus branded models you can usually always find toyota branding if you look closely.

  • Philthy

That thing makes a Veyron look pretty! I appreciate the tech but it has the sex appeal of magda szubanski pre Jenny Craig.

    • mark

      OUCH!!!!!!!! lol

    • The Oracle

You mean she appeals to you now?

  • snowy

well i hope this “supercar” isnt a toyota.

    • Tomas79

      Little things amuse little minds!!
Why the hell would you care what badge is in the front?!

  • http://valet_dabes valet dabess

Well whoever gets them better drive them hard cause i see a heap of people who have sports cars and drive slow.

  • Neo Utopia

I don’t know why Toyota, oh sorry, Lexus just don’t do what Audi have done with their R8; don’t have such a small production allocation and let the buyer dictate the supply. I mean it’s a Lexus, not an illustrious Ferrari or Lamborghini.

  • t

i just read the story on the aston carbon black…. now this… look at the aston, then look at this….

    man this is hideous compared.

    BUT

i still want one…. for free! if i were paying id have the aston!

  • Gambler88

this is a marketing ploy from lexus. it might be sold out this time but let’s see how well the upcoming batch will be. it all comes down to how much lexus priced them in aust. if they priced them to compete against porsches/ferrari then it will be a flop because the people who are willing to shelled out that amount of money on a car is more about prestige and brand perception. and unfortunately lexus is not prestigious enough compared to porsches or ferrari. if they priced them just above the gtr then it will have more successful. i wouldn’t mind getting one of these though…..if i can afford it off course :)

  • peter

How does it compare to the GTR? I have to say that this one doesnt “look” supercar to me – aside from the vents in the back, it looks like any sub $100K Japanese sports/quasi sports car, and I tend to think that supercars should look extraordinary as well as performing that way. Not saying it isnt brilliant, but against the GTR which is menacing, even if not pretty, or (say) a Massa which is pretty if not menacing, this one is a little vanilla for my tastes (which I have to admit, are appearance first, performance second). Actually, it looks to me like someones taken a GTR and injected oestrogen, for the ladies’ market

  • UMWAHT

ughhh someone call the ugly police

  • Mk II

I love it, and I don’t think they are really aiming at Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini owners, I think they are aiming at people who already have Lexus’ (Lexii?) and have a strong affiliation to the brand, or at least I would imagine that is who they will offer them to.

    Regards,

    Mark.

    • peter

I think that’s right. They are really popular with Japanese, and Taiwanese as well, in my experience, and I understand they are the most popular prestige car in North America. Doesnt float my boat, but no lexus does. Lexus owners are usually intensely loyal to the brand.

  • Neo Utopia

Actually for a Lexus, comparing to older Lexuses or bar the IS and maybe the LS, this is reasonable looking supercar I think, for a Japanese car. But when the time comes to be sidded up against a Lamborghini Murcielago or Audi R8 V10 then I think people might have a slightly different opinion of how it looks. Still for me the Audi R8 V10 is THE supercar of the decade, even after the Veyron because the Veyron is not technically a supercar if it is slower around a track compared to more agile Supercars.

  • Wheelnut

    LF-A = Looks F-kn Awful

    • The Realist

It doesn’t matter, they’ll sell every one of the 500 allocated.

How many Holden W200s were sold again? I guess Holden weren’t able to fool those with serious cash like they could with the Big Mac lovers.

      • Tomas79

How many Holden W200s were sold again?

        137…
        FAIL

      • Wheelnut

You say that unlike HSV and the W-427; Lexus will sell all 500 LF-As…

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. maybe they will maybe they won’t; who knows.. there is no guarantee of that is there?

        Sure HSV intended to build $27 W427s but were only able to find 137 customers. yet the same applies to the LF-A;
Lexus are planning to build 500 of them but they may only be able to find 100-200 customers willing to pay such a high premium – for a car which really doesn’t have enough innovation etc to justify it.

Particularly when [just like the W-427] there are a number of other options available which offer the same level of luxury and performance than the LF-A; if not more [for less]

        • SteveH

This Lexus has a V10 that revs to 9000 rpm. I can’t think of too many other road cars with something like that Wheelnut.

Maybe Lexus are pricing themselves out of the market with this, but honestly, who knows? At least they are bringing something interesting to the table and not just a basic upgrade of a car with a bigger engine stuffed in.

Maybe they should tack on some daytime running lights along with some bonnet nostrils and you would think it is a nice looking car.

        • Andrew M

          Wheelie,
dont forget that they 500 is a world wide sale.

They only have to find homes for 5 in OZ which is nearing 30 times less to sell than W427′s
If they cant sell a lousy 5 they may as well call it a TRD

          • Tomas79

It’s not Lexus’s fault, HSV w427 has no internationals interested!!

          • Andrew M

stop with the negative spin, I wasnt trying to make excuses for the W427, I was actually saying since the Lexus has a world market, it will find sales easier then the W427

I wasnt siding with either product, just stating the obvious.

Always looking for a fight arent you????

          • Wheelnut

Tomas If the HSV-427 was available overseas -particularly the USA I’m pretty sure that there would have been a considerable number of car enthusiasts willing to buy one..

Because as I have said before you just have to look at both the rave reviews that journalists and the positive comments that car enthusiasts have made about V8 Holden Commodore on other “autoblog” sites; you would see that they love it and some envy what we have here in Oz

Though if you were to do that; it would go against your pre-conceived narrow-minded negative views about Aussie cars wouldn’t it?

  • Peter

You are too harsh. I thought it to be “Looks Fairly Average”. Actually to me it looks fairly eighties, but that wont fit the TLA.

  • dilligaf

Can someone explain to me why this thing is so expensive ? Is it innovative like the Veyron was when it came out or yet another copy cat exercise from Toyota ?

Wow, another fast coupe, how is that spectacular ?

    • Shak

people with this sort of crazy money will not care. All they see is a giant bragging tag stuck to the car so that when the common folk ask ow much they can say keep dreaming.

  • http://aca Branding Rights

Looks closely at any Audi and you will see VW branding. Very soon Porsche will have some sort of VW branding joining Bugatti and Lamborghini

  • Tell em they’re Dreamin’

he LF-A is approx 4.8 metres Long… What platform did they use a Landcruiser?
