Totally agree with Ed and Allan. There are a lot of ignorant people in Australia who dislike Honda and exaggerate the lack of low end torque as the reason. They really have no clue.

I own a Civic VTi-L and even with the 1.8L I find it has a lot more torque compared to my previous car, a Lancer MR (also a 1.8L). With more power and torque than the Lancer, plus the extra weight, it still uses less fuel than the Lancer. The best of both worlds really.

Due to my job, I’ve also driven the new Lancer, Mazda 3, Corolla, Peugeot 308, Golf and Kia Cerato; none of these come even close to my Civic in terms of overall enjoyment.

I would just like to know if anyone has done any engine upgrades to a type r civic. Im keen to know if it is at all possible because i have one of these lovely machines and am curious.

I dislike how people say Honda are powerless, torqueless etc. below 6000 RPM. In a racing situation, you would never go below 6000 RPM =)

Got my 08 civic type R two weeks ago, the car is amazing, never fails to excite – took down a modded s15 in a straight line, destroyed the Integra type-r with carbon fiber hood & exhaust up an incline… The engine sounds beautiful, it feels fantastic it goes… and just when you think it wont go any more it powers some more.

I’ve read some very harsh reviews, frankly i have no idea how anyone could rubbish this car. I’ve driven the MPS, GTI, mini – none of these even come close in terms of overall enjoyment…

CIVIC TYPE R? IF YOU HAVENT TRIED IT YOU CAN’T JUDGE IT. I HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THE FIRST TO COME TO S.A. AND I HAVENT EVEN HAD A PROPER TEST DRIVE. THIS CAR IMPRESSES ME MORE AND MORE EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT! IT KICKS ASS WITHOUT ANY MODS, JUST WAIT TILL THEY START MAKING UPGRADES!

yeah….. sounds familiar lol my civic r ate an integra r that had a full aftermarket exhaust and apparently tuned chip. He thought he won but hmmm I think backing off at 150 is enough to prove who really won.. Would be nice to have the full japanese spec R engine though and recaro seats, but hey Its still a hot piece of machinery

hey there, i own a honda integra type S 2005, its got 254kws 6 more then civic type R and its really fast, last week i was drivin home from gym and a red civic type R pulled up next to me, the guy who bought it was one of the guys that was in the gym the same night, anyways i told him i ll give him a head start when light goes green but he said he woudnt race, but when the light went green i flowred the accelerator all the way and saw civic type r in my reat view mirror, on the next red light i looked at the guy and smiled sayin good car buddy just not fast enough he told me he wasnt racing lol. he said he ll race me off these lights and if i win he ll give me the key to his car. i said nah i ll just keep my integra heehe, once again the light went green and i pressed the accelerator as had as i could but there was no hope, he was two car lenghts infront of me already and possibly even 4-5 car lengths as he continued accelerating. i guess i lost it this time lol but all i know is my next car is civic type R for sure, cos its such a light weight car with performance very few hot hatchs can match .

Honda engines stress efficiency at low revs. the normal driver to Honda will drive normally and efficiently at low revs, and hence will not need low end torque, but when they feel like having fun they can rev it up. in my opinion, this is what an everyday car should be like. and honda makes everyday cars. even their NSX is called the ‘everyday supercar’.

its unrealistic and pointless to have grunt all the way from 1000rpm to 8000rpm. and also, the lack of low end torque is easily exaggerated. i own a 2007 civic type R and at low revs there is plenty of low-end torque for my everyday normal driving. it has much more than say, a normal civic

Honda always wants to win the power-per-litre battle given a certain engine displacement. This will certainly look nice when printed on brochures, but little did some buyers know they’re bloody torqueless before 4000 rpm, even the Legend flagship. The serious lack of low-end grunt is something that’s overlooked when getting a Honda. Power is what attracts the customer, but it’s torque they’ll feel in the end.

well honda is coming to australia to stay…and hell over in australia heeps of people are buying the type r type s, honda 4door sedan, the coupe, the hatch, every make and model people buy in australia.. and damn that hatch looks hot. but the price is pretty high, but most people will trade in the type r to purchase the new one..

Forget about it, Honda Australia just hopeless, they only know how to please the old people, forget about Honda’s sporty image, at the end, Nissan, Subaru and Mitsubishi got the whole sporty car market. Finally, Honda’s image will become old people car manufacturer!!
