New Vauxhaul Astra takes to UK roads

The first of Vauxhaul's new Astra models have been delivered to eager UK customers this weekend following the vehicle's official retail launch.

UK dealers say they expect a "surge of interest" in the new five-door hatch following an already unprecedented early demand that followed the vehicle's September unveiling.

The new Astra range includes five petrol and three diesel engines through all five model grades (S, Exclusiv, SRi, SE and Elite), and has a starting price of just £15,675 (AUD$27,950).

All models now come with ESP, six airbags, air conditioning, electric windows, CD tuner (with MP3 format and auxiliary plug-in) and electric/heated door mirrors.

Options include AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting) and FlexRide, which brings a choice of three suspension settings drivers can manually control or leave for the car to select automatically.

The Astra’s engine efficiency has improved by as much as 13 per cent on the outgoing range, meaning that drivers will not only benefit from cleaner emissions, but also a reduction fuel costs. Petrol engines range from 1.4- to a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit, while diesels span 1.7- to 2.0-litres capacity.
