Facelift for Lexus LS 460 and new Sport model

By Matt Brogan |

The Lexus LS 460 receives a facelift across the range with the addition of a Sports model for people who want more performance. The LS 460 Sport has a unique grill, body kit and wheels.

Just as important as the sports looks is the cars performance, with sports tuned mechanical upgrades, retuned suspension, upgraded stabiliser bar, revised transmission, paddle shifters and Brembo brakes. The car will be able to live up to its sports image.

With an eight speed transmission based on the Lexus IS F, it has up-shift times of 0.3 seconds quicker than in standard form. With the option of a manual mode (M) or the normal automatic mode (D).

In M mode down-shifts occur in 0.2 of a second using a throttle blipping control to match engine speed to the gear.

Changes to the suspension consist of retuned air suspension and upgraded stabiliser bar to provide a firmer ride and help reduce body roll during cornering.

Non-sport models have four piston calipers with 357mm rotors for the front and two piston calipers with 335mm rotors for the rear. The new sport model gets Brembo six piston calipers with 380mm rotors for the front and four piston calipers with 334mm rotors for the rear.

Front seats also gain extra support for the hip, shoulder and thigh to give you more support.

The LS 460 Sport has a black weave grill, front spoiler, side rocker moldings and unique 20 spoke 19 inch alloy wheels.

Complimenting the addition of the LS Sports is the upgrade to the whole LS range. All LS 460 models get retuned air-suspension as well as changes to the dash, redesigned centre cluster with new switchgear and chrome highlights to improve the look of the cabin.

To improve fuel economy Lexus has introduced a new ECO mode which reduces power needed to run the air conditioning. ECO mode also informs the driver when the car is being driven in a fuel efficient way or not.

Lexus new rear seat entertainment with wireless headphones is also available in the LS 460 but the Sports misses out. This entertainment system was covered in a previous news report. www.caradvice.com.au/47908/lexus-introduces-premium-rear-seat-entertainment/

Entry and exit is assisted by an auto slide feature in the drivers seat and the rear seat has a massage function with  adjustable side supports on the headrests, also not available on the Sports model.

As expected with a facelift the LS has had minor visual changes, new front and rear bumpers, grill, new front headlights with a strip of LED running lights below the headlight and revised rear lights and now the indicators are incorporated in the side mirrors.

Now available in 10 colours with the added protection of scratch-resistant clear coating.

“With the introduction of IS F last year, Lexus has increasingly been asked about sportier versions of its vehicles and LS 460 Sports is an answer to those questions,” said Lexus Chief Executive John Roca.??”LS 460 Sport will appeal to those that want a comfortable tourer with a sporting kick. ??”Upgrades across the LS Line ensure that it remains the flagship of our range and top of mind with luxury saloon customers,” said Mr Roca.

  • Dan

“The car will be able to live up to its sports image”??!!

  • talk then think

Anyone else thinks that the front looks like the accord?

  • shag

I think the front looks like Aurion

  • http://aca Shane

It looks like a Lexus, the largest selling marque in North America.

    • Hung Low

Yeah, like the Americans have good taste in cars anyway! Perhaps the branding has more to do with it than the cars themselves?
Imagine if half the American owners knew that their Lexus was a Toyota!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Al Juraj

Then imagine half the Australian owners knew that their Holden isn’t actually Aussie! lol

        • Shak

Most people know. All they care about nowadays is a good car for a good price.

          • rocket_v6

Shak says: “Most people know. All they care about nowadays is a good car for a good price”……same point with lexus.

      • TG

Oh yeah, I forgot Australians set the trends for sytle and image and copy nothing of the Americans!

  • http://aca Shane

The Lexus LS … arguably the highest quality, most refined and technologically advanced luxo limo that can be purchased anywhere in the world today. Craftsmanship is often described as impeccable. The reputation this vehicle has earned speaks for itself.

  • Deco

You’d think they’d face lift to look more err, less toyotaery.

Instead it looks like an Aurion with too much GH.

  • The Realist

Exterior may be subdued… but the quality of the interior is mindblowing. I just don’t like the wood grain.

  • Hung Low

Is it me or that Dash/interior looks dated and like something from a $50k car, Hyundai Granduer perhaps?
The colour of the white leather and poo brown wood trim is hideous. The wheels are ugly with crap offset.
Lexus has a long way to go for substance!
Shane/Dingo you knob, the term “craftsmanship” and mass produced cars do not bind together. Craftsmanship is found in a Bentley or Rolls not a pimped Toyota!

    • spellbound

For once i totally agree with you one hung low , bling at its best , the yanks will love it

    • Jamison

You wouldnt know what crap offset is…

Why would Lexus have small offsets, what? to have “fat” looking wheels?

This isnt a sports performance car that needs wide tracks, its a Luxury sedan/saloon.

And I LOVE how you managed to use Bentley and Rolls Royce as examples of “craftmanship”. Considering those cars are in the 800-1.5 Million dollar range, and each part/component is custom made from customer preference. Your comparison isn’t logical.

Next thing you’d do is compare a 370Z to the Porche Carerra GT and bag the 370R for failing to match it.

Bottomline, Lexus has topped JD powers several times and is considered to be one of the best built cars out there. Biased against Toyota doesnt change that.

This car is a dream, definitely one of the best luxury cars out there.

      • Hung Low

You are a dud! read the article! This variant has Brembo brakes, throttle blipping 8 speed gearbox, that hideous white leather interior etc. If they are not sporting pretensions then what are?
More offset like the BMW and Merc’s have fill the guards and give the car a better stance for a large car.

I do not like the term ‘craftsmanship’ thrown around for mass produced cars, simple as that! No comparison between a Bentley and Lexus but one maker fits the bill of craftsmanship better as you have said hand built, custom made components vs machine moulded, robot assembled components!

You are just another Toyota fan fairy that cannot handle any criticism over their beloved Lexus mark!

        • SteveH

Hung, you call everyone else a dud, yet re-read what you wrote. Since when has a white interior promoted ‘sporting intentions’. Also, I can tell you have never been in a Lexus as their fit and finish is second to none. Craftsmanship may be a stretch, but the quality of the workmanship on these cars is brilliant. And as for the offset on these wheels, width ways these wheels seem to fill the guards reasonably well to me. You may prefer a fully sick set of chrome wheels from Tempe Tyres on your car, but that makes it obvious as to why you don’t like this car.

  • Shak

This car is actually very good in terms of craftsmanship. If you have ever driven one and had the chance to live with one then youd know that. As for the look it is a bit bland but blows away the Germans in terms of Kit.

  • 1ill

like all toyotas, plain and boring. this one takes it to the next level though, fugly.

    • The Real Car Fanatic

If you won it in a competition I bet you wouldn’t complain.

      • Captain Nemo

        Car fanatic

If i won it in a competition i would sell it and probably spend the money simple as that.

        • The Real Car Fanatic

Simple! Yes I can see you fitting into that mould!

  • o

200k for a car with an interior that resembles a camry? no thanks!

    • Jamison

Well if I see a Camry that has “similar resemblance” to the interior of this car… I’d buy it straight away… and Im not the type to buy a camry.

  • Roger

However it is, it will not break down… unlike bmw/mercedes/audi clan!

    • The Real Car Fanatic

BMW isn’t as bad as you think, we owned a 325i in the UK for four years and never once had a problem. Well except for the deer that jumped out in front of the car in the Ashdown forest, but that isn’t a relaibility issue.

      • Hung Low

What is the difference between a run over deer and a run over Car Fanatic on a highway???……………………………………………………….
        …………..
        ………..
        …………………
        …………….
        ………………
        ………………..

        Skid marks before the deer!

        • The Real Car Fanatic

Get that from your big book of childrens jokes Hungy?

Don’t give up your day job….. oh wait, you’re a dole bludger, I almost forgot.

          • Hung Low

You are a online stalker 24/7, that reckons I am on the dole or as in your language ‘the pension’! I think the years of residing in housing commission is finally getting to you!
You must be the King of Macquarie Fields in that Golf of yours…

Did you like my kiddy joke? Pretty funny heh! I thought I would play down to your mental capacity!

          • The Real Car Fanatic

Yeah right Hung, you couldn’t reach my mental capacity if Albert Einstein and Steven Hawking fused their DNA and impregnated your mother.

Me a Stalker? That’s rich coming from the guy who posts more than anyone else on here. Get a life and get a job rent boy!

    • Roger that Roger

Not only will it not break down, but it will also not slow down because your floor mat is jambing the pedals
