Kia GT concept makes first production appearance in factory leak

The big and bold Kia GT concept, first revealed way back in 2011, has made its first appearance in production form today.

Not quite the unveiling Kia would have wanted for its new flagship rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, this first look comes courtesy of a low-quality photo snapped at the factory.

Despite the original concept's advancing years, the final production model looks to have steered close to its motor-show progenitor's styling.

Known internally by the project name 'CK', the evolved four-door coupe seen here will - according to enthusiast site Kia-World - go by the name K8 in its home market.

Following an Audi-like nomenclature, that would position the new model between the K7 and the K9, known as Cadenza and K900 in the US.

The K7 and K9 are not offered in Australia, but the GT or so-called K8 is expected to make its way to our shores by the end of next year.

The new fastback sedan is expected to share its platform and drivetrain with the upcoming Genesis G70 sedan, although it is unclear if the GT/K8 will be any larger than Hyundai's upcoming premium mid-sizer.

No surprise, representatives for Kia Australia could not offer comment today on this image or its supposed name.
