FPV Limited Edition ‘Cobra GT Falcon’
Ford forums are rife with rumour this week that FPV are to release a limited edition ‘Cobra GT Falcon’ to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Allan Moffat and Colin Bond’s historic 1977 form-finish at Bathurst.
To be unofficially unveiled at this year’s Bathurst, the 302kW Boss V8 powered sedan will see it’s official release at Sydney’s International Motor Show. There is also speculation that a ute variant will follow, perhaps based on the Super Pursuit.

Like the GT 40th Anniversary model, they are only to be available in one colour, obviously white with blue stripes, and will be limited to a run of 250 units. The bonnet decal will read ‘Boss 302′ but all other specs are to be the same as the 40th Anniversary model. Pricing is said to be $71,500.
Some dealers are said to be taking orders but Ford remains tight lipped. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

***PRIMO***!
What ever happened to the Supercharged V8 that Tickford [yes, all the way back then] engineered and approved for Falcon installation?
Cheers

The original Cobra was a hardtop (2 door).
And I agree - where is the supercharger!!!

Wow! Another tarted up Ford/Holden with go faster stripes. What a revelation! No doubt queues will form quickly of people with false self esteem, big egos and lots of money to snap up these.
Hopefully it will have fog lights so the dim witted drivers can blind oncoming traffic with gay abandon; just becuase they think it looks “cool” (or are too stupid to figure out how to turn the lights off).
Will be exciting to see these things drag off HSV’s to see who can get to service station faster to fill up with petrol . . . again . . . .

No, I don’t own a Prius and I do not hog the right lane. Far from it. I am as passionate about driving as you probably are. But I am immensely tired of all the tools who drive V8’s who think they own the road and they are big heroes.
PS: You would never guess what I drive but I can assure you it gets from A to B as quickly and with more go-kart like fun than any V8 dinosaur could, particularly as they have to stop for fuel twice as often as I would.

August 28th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
So i take it you class all V8 owners in the same category, that would be quite a list…
A pity then that these vehicles still have a viable market.
Tell us what do you drive?

I am simply commenting on my first hand observations and experience of V8’s and V8 drivers over the past 25 years. And every day on the road.
Each to their own, of course.

Yes it does come down to opinion, i’ve seen plenty of ‘hoons’ in turbocharged 4cyl vehicles too, does that make those drivers ‘heroes’ and a feeling of owning the road too?
So what do you drive?

yeah ok…
You opened you trap and make an assumption, and claimed you drive a vehicle that satisfies all these parameters…
So cut the shy act and tell us?
By the way i work in the auto industry…
I’m sure i don’t need to tell you, an anthusiast that many cars shouldn’t exist, as a smaller range of vehicles would certainly suit the needs of 95% of average joe motorists…
(Report)
August 28th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
I followed a Maloo on a wonderful country road just the other week. Much faster than me in a straight line but throw in some corners and I caught up very quickly. I think this annoyed the poor drivers delicate ego quite a lot.
It is even happening on this forum
PS: Even if you take only 5 minutes to refill your fuel tank, at 110km/h I be ahead of you over 9km by the time you have taken off again. You need to fill twice to my once.

Matthew,
Firstly I don’t drive a V8 (Turbo I6 for those who care), but I still find your comments useless and full of frankly full of crap. Did you just learn that faster cars attract Wankers an Enthusiasts alike? Did you just learn work this out now after 25 years and felt so shocked that you had to rant about it now?
Grow Up! Any car can be driven by a wanker, that’s life, hate to break it to you but you live in a world filled with wankers (in fact I’m typing to one right now!).
Rather than making judgements and casting dispersions on everyone who drives a V8 how about structuring some kind of argument that makes sense and as 280zx & Adam rightly stated, put your money where your mouth is.

So your observations over these years would include a wide range of v8 models Mercs,BMWs,Audis,Koenigsegg CCX ect ect……….
Surely there are as many ricers being idiots as V8 drivers being tools ?
But back on the subject of the Cobra, you will be lucky to see this on the road as collectors will snap them up and store them. Already the 40th anniversary model that came out recently has increased in value. With a R/R of $ 65.000 + on road when they were released your now looking at $86.000 for one.

Anyways tell what it is or are you too scared that a bunch of “hoons” are gonna make fun of you for driving a rice burner. Who gives a toss whether you get twice the economy of a V8, people who buy V8’s are willing to pay the extra $$$ for the priviledge.
Anyways Matthew’s got his attention now we’ll just ignore him.
Ok the Cobra, I’m excited about this, at least the last FPV BA Falcon gets a much needed power boost and hopefully it comes with the R-Spec Suspension setup.
I must admit the BA shape is really starting to date but the FPV’s still look and go great.

Yep Glen the R spec suspension will be carried through into the Cobra and continue into the Orion.
What I cant fathom is why 302KWs when the next GT will have 320 ? Are they allocating the 302 as it suits the Cobra livery but giving it 320kws or is it 302kws? Doesn’t make financial sense to make only 250 cars with 302kw engines?
(Report)
August 28th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Guess it’s a marketing thing. 302 as a ‘tuning improvement’ for the last of the BA/BF generation, 320 then becomes the ‘new’ number to sell the Orion with.

on the cobra….
awesome!! stripes need to go over the roof for sure and yeah the white interior as BM suggested would be an item to make sure it was a TRUE collectors item and didnt fall into the helm of depreciation.
a bit more power isnt enough to make a car iconic anymore. it needs some well thought of, never to be repeated stuff and the interior i think definatly needs something special.

I’m actually really disappointed… Why 302kw!? And why release it now? Don’t get me wrong, I bet it’s a great car to drive. But I was expecting to see a great deal more difference from the normal FPV GT…
I’m gonna guess that Matthew drives a Toyota Yaris… M8, your just the same as all those other good for nothings that don’t know what they’re talking about, don’t know how to drive and try to race people on the open road. Regardless of if there are some corners, a HSV Maloo will still come out above any tiny little 4cyl. The same goes with most V8’s and Turbo 6’s… Well the ones that have power steering.

Guys, I enjoy a lot of your posts and opinions on this site and did not intend to create such an attack. Let’s see if we can have a discussion without resorting to school yard attacks?
You are good at jumping to conclusions, ie: that I was breaking the speed limit while following the Maloo. And that I drive a Japanese car.
The exact car I drive is not the point (although it does have sodium filled exhaust valves. V8 Supercars have these, too, I understand?).
I remember when the Ford Cobra coupes won Bathurst 1-2. It was a truly great day and as a Ford fan it was tremendous. Let’s hope they can repeat it again one day.
It seems you guys and gals don’t like it, but it is a fact that on the right road (at the speed limit) a nippy light (FWD even) car can match and (with the right driver) beat a heavy V8. I have enjoyed this experience on more than one occasion, in NSW and Tas. If you don’t like it, there’s no need to act like a baby.
Let’s just enjoy our shared passion for all cars.

To much like every other FPV..
And some more power would make it worth it maybe DJ’s 320kw at least..
But when HSV do a special car the power might not jump but the set-up changes and the car is much better to drive like that HRT thing they did with the tricked out Suspension and tyres.

Yep very true Andrew ,can anyone have a go at trying to photo shop it into a Cobra ? It will look like the 40th anniversary with the stripes over the bonnet but obviously in white with blue stripes and the BOSS 302 decal on the bonnet bulge ! Matts suggestion of the Cobra on the front guard would look great too.
R32 I think they like the rest of the GT range appeal to the baby boomers especially as we were to young to either have one when they came out or cant afford the real thing in the 70s model of GTs.

Interesting comments all round!! Just a bit of info on the 78 Cobra. Someone commented about a Cobra winning in 77. It was in fact not a Cobra. The Cobra came out in 1978, the 77 racing XC was a GS Rally Pack albeit not a lot different. Also the orginal Cobra has black seats with blue stripes through them, not white seats. It would be great to see a similar theme in this new version. One thing that does confuse me aboput releasing a Cobra this year. It is 30 years from the 1977 1-2 finish, however those cars were not Cobras. The Cobras didnt race until 1978, and they didnt win. Wouldnt a 30 year LE Cobra be better next year??

Hey 40th GT, True the XC Cobra didn’t come out till 78 but it was released to celebrate the win of Moffat & Bond in 77 in XCs so I think thats why its getting released this year to celebrate the 30th aniversary of the 1&2 win.

In Fact the Cobra was only a marketing tool to get rid of the last 400 coupe bodyshells that ford had lying around. In that respect even though its not going to be a coupe it is in the true fashion of creating a special edition out of the end of a series, in the case the BF.
As a owner of an XC cobra I cant wait for the next installmet, I have already put down a deposit, I dont expect it to be an exact replica just as long as they keep the theme intact i will be quite happy. Also it will be the 1st ever Falcon with a factory 300kw.

I too have put down a deposit in the hope of having something worth keeping for the long term. But don’t get it wrong - I will be driving it. It will see the road, and the race track. And I’ll be happy to see any of you out there.
It’s not about what you’ve got - It’s about how you use it. And as for following Malloo’s (or anything else) on windy roads - “the car maketh not the driver”. The tool in the 6 series coupe next to me on Leach Highway yesterday was proof enough that money can buy neither common sense nor driving skill. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s V8 too has sodium filled valves…
Just my 2c.

Et al, You have NO idea what your talking about, this car yes is good marketing on Fords behalf but is also about celebrating a moment in history that was remembered by many. Those purchasing you will find are GT or Cobra enthusiasts and money well invested.I mean how many new cars can you buy now that increase in value in less than 12 months like the 40th limited edition this Cobra will be the same.
The meaning of Bogan for you below.
BOGAN (pronunciation boe-gn) is a term used primarily in Australia to describe a particular section of the working class demographic. This derogatory slang word is a gender-neutral noun; this being important as many bogans tend to gravitate towards one another forming relationships and extended families. A bogan family is not an uncommon phenomena in certain regions. A bogan typically resides in either a low-cost housing estate, government housing or in the outlying regional areas of continental Australia. Generally bogans tend to congregate in areas with little or no features & amenities.
Generally the bogan fits a particular stereotypical image. The perception of what actually constitutes a bogan has been shaped over the years primarily by the media; notable especially are television programs such as Channel 7’s Today Tonight and Channel 9’s A Current Affair . These programs regularly feature stories of harrowing boganism- including communities under siege from bogan terrorism, and bogans “rorting the system” in relation to welfare benefits and questionable practices. A number of comedy programs have also featured bogans in the past, prime examples being Kylie Mole of The Comedy Company, Poida (bogan pronunciation of the name “Peter”) played by Eric Bana, and more recently Bloke Man of the Comedy Inc late shift. Eric Bana’s portrayal of the character Poida gained him accolades within the industry and effectively launched his professional acting career. This is one of very few examples of extreme boganism leading to success & wealth.
So now we have a basic understanding of the bogan, we may delve further into the mysterious world of mullets and long-kneck beer bottles in brown paper bags. Traits of the bogan can be summarised by the following points:
• A pronounced lack of dress sense in social situations. Typical bogan attire consists of a flannelette shirt, King Gee stubbie shorts (either blue/khaki), torn or soiled jeans from the 1980’s or earlier, and of course double-plug standard issue white thong sandals with black rubber. A bogan’s dress sense is not influenced by intended destination/occasion hence the line between workwear and formal wear is often hazy at best. On rare occasions bogans may be spotted wearing enclosed shoes when entering the local RSL to “have a slap on the pokies” or to “get pissed wif me mates on the veebs (VB)”. A female bogan will usually wear a matching ensemble usually consisting of second-hand fashions or products purchased from the discount retail chains Best and Less or Big W.

Expect the orion to be relaeased around March next year Because from what the I’ve read in a number of Articles the press keep saying that it will be released around the same time as the VE2 which is March/April. which seems fairly accurate given
Fords plans to release a “Cobra” indicate they;re in run-out mode [similar to the XC Cobra].
However; I believe inorder to do the Cobra any justice it Ford should only use the Cobra name on a Coupe. It’s like the original GTS Monaro was a coupe so a 4 door GTS Monaro isn’t really a GTS Monaro
If Ford doesn’t have an Orion Falcon [or at least a prototype] at the Sydney Motorshow; they should try to have a couple on display at the Clipsal 500 - in the merchandise area
(Report)
September 5th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Hey Wheel Nut I agree I dont see a Monaro as a 4 door even though they did make them, but they also made 6 cylinder ones something Ford never bothered with.
I agree though it should have been a 2 door but the tooling cost would be too great just to do a BF 2 door limited ed unless they could use the back section somehow on the new Orion ! Then they would have to make it look like a true 2 door BIG back guards like the old models {we can fit 345s P Zeros under our XA GT Coupe,no its not tubbed}not like the NEW Monaro that looks like a 2 door Commodore.AHHHH we can dream.

ah so is the cobra ute also comfirmed now too?
yeah this is far from a bogans car. it is too expensive.
thanks for the scientific definition of bogan missile now here is a bogans car.
Bogans car:
a 5+ year old commodore such as a VS or VL commodore done up with a bubble rear spoiler and a seat that is permanently reclined to 45 degrees or greater and has a HSV sticker on the rear screen.
has any one heard of that song called “noboby likes a bogan”?
it actually depicts the bogan driving a “VK commodore with alloy wheels and a home made spoiler made of crappy steel”.
the song is a bit of a laugh and i personally dont see how any one in OZ would take offence to having a bit of bogan in them anyway. if we look deep enough we prob all have a bit in us.
hell when i was in amsterdam i was walking around with a couple of other aussies and we stopped and had a laugh at ourselves when we realised we were all wearing boardshorts with thongs all the way on the otherside of the world

September 5th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
exactlly missile,
the cobra should have been 2 door but the cost of tooling a 2 door for a limited run would be too expensive. to justify a 2 door it would have to mass produced like the monaro which would see this one fall into the helm of depreciation just like the monaro.
if monaro was limited run im sure it would have held value, but also it would have been impossible to justify the cost for holden and it wouldnt have been reborn, or holden would have gone broke because of it.

I think just as Matt states in his article, $71,500 .
Still Andrew would be good to see Ford with a REAL 2 door not sure they would have the same response as the Monaro though,Holdens Coupes never looked as good as Fords. Next to XW & XYs the XA GT Coupe is the most sought after cause they look so tough. A resent buyer paid $200.00 for an XA GT RPO Coupe here in the West. For those that don’t know what an RPO is in XA GTs it was basically those made in 1973 with the left overs of Phase 4 parts thrown at them. All XA,XB & XC used the same shells that was 7 years of use.
(Report)
September 6th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
yeah missile i agree it is a bad sad history wise that it wont be a 2 door but if it were run like the monaro people would get over the novelty thing and sales would eventually slide and embarassingly like the monaro they would have to kill it with no hope of retaining any sort of resale for owners

There is still some hope for a Ford Coupe.
If the rumours that Ford Oz are likely to develop perhaps even build the next-gen Mustang in 2010 are true.. then a 2-door falcon could become a reality. Because even though the majority of stangs will be sent overseas any excess could be sold here. All Ford would have to do is mould on a Falcon front end.
Then for that unique touch Hilliers could add doors similar to the Raptor ute and Herrod enhance the Engine

Andrew you watch EBAY ?
Hubby looking at restoring our XA GT to original if you have seen it he has a LONG way to go,any way has started buying bits for him off EBAY , looked at a standard bore block sold over the weekend for $2000.00 for a XA GT Coupe ,wow! How about a pair of spot lights new old stock for $3000.00 or perhaps a side mirror for sale for $700.00 ! Gees I think the XA may stay modified a little longer. I will send some pics to you coming to a Ford Mag soon to Alborz, hope he sends them on for you. Anyone have a block sitting under the house with JG66 stamped on it ?

Anyone heard of the new Craig Lowndes Ute coming out Oct Nov this year. They did a similar thing with a Russell Ingall and Marcus Ambros XR8 a while ago.
Here is what Car Point had to say.
“Ford is about announce a special Craig Lowndes limited edition XR ute for production during October and November this year, based on its current BF Mk II range.
With special badging “XR by Craig Lowndes”, just 353 XR6, 100 XR6 Turbo and 197 XR8 examples will be built for a total of 650.
After buyers have shown indifference to Ford’s latest special editions of the XR sedans which don’t carry any special identification or unique exterior features, dealers are hopeful that these special XR utes will help revive stagnant sales by leveraging Ford’s V8 Supercar involvement with Craig Lowndes.
Holden’s new VE ute has upped the ante in this segment by addressing most advantages previously enjoyed by its Falcon rival. Ford’s new limited edition will be timed to hit showrooms about the same time as stocks of the new VE ute start to make an impression.
The Craig Lowndes limited edition will be available only in Conquer (blue), Silhouette (black), Vixen (red), Lightning Strike (silver) and Octane (orange).
Special Momo steering wheels with coloured sections and matching thread colours in the cabin trim will be tied to each exterior colour: blue to match the blue exterior, red for the red and black cars while grey is specified for the orange and silver examples.
These Craig Lowndes utes will deliver almost $5000 worth of extra features at no extra cost. They include 18-inch sports alloy wheels, one piece hard tonneau cover with power bulge and rear spoiler or three piece hard tonneau cover with sports bar and spoiler, Momo steering wheel, Prestige sound with six-disc in-dash CD stacker, MP3 input and “XR6/6 Turbo/8 by Craig Lowndes” decals ahead of the rear wheel arches.
Ford has undertaken to support these special models with extra marketing throughout Bathurst and other V8 Supercar events.
Ford dealers are taking advance orders for this special model now.”

yep i got pics. i dont know what else to say its a pretty schmick ride. not only for the grunt im sure it posesses but the condition it is in is pretty wow.
where did you find out about the limited edition utes?
i am thinking of upgrading soon and i looked at the ripcurl edition but it didnt impress me enough to go “wow thats cool”. i mean they gave you rip curl seat covers and a decal. thats about it.
i dont know whether to wait and see what the orion brings or even the lowndes ute sounds interesting. i wonder what resale on a limited edition ute is like? i dont know if there has ever been a limited edition ute do you?
falcon utes all the way i reckon!!!!!
oh yeah id assume you would get leather in the edition ute too?????

September 11th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
I don’t mind the colour of that Rip Curl Ute ,your right though its not blokey enough. Yep not sure if they have bought out a limited Ed Ute either apart from the Cobra one coming next month. Maybe you should do some sussing out on that ? The Lowdnes Ute would depend on the colours so see if you can get some more info on that as well. The Orion Ute will be a while off though won’t it? How long did the BA Ute take to come out after the sedans? Did you hear that Holden maybe canning their wagon? We had something here in our newspaper on the weekend. The new VE Ute will have the same wheel base as the sedans not like now from the wagon and with more people using mid range 4WDs there is no point in developing a wagon ,mmm interesting . You have a fetish for leather Andrew ………in a UTE ? LOL See my next post for the link to the Lowndes Ute.

September 12th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
ah so is there still going to be a cobra ute or are people getting it confused with the said lowndes limited ute?
yeah speculation is ripe on the commy wagon and holden arent admitting it yet.
actually the BA ute did come at the same time as the rest of the BA range. it was the AU ute that was delayed due to its totally redesigned layout it came in ‘99 (about 6 months after the Au range was released). so im figuring that since the basic layout seems to be carried over that it should arrive as part of the entire range.
nah leather in a ute is only a bonus really. i mean id probably still put seat covers on them. i was just figuring leather because the magnet editions had it.
yeah that rip curl ute on the ad showed it with a hard lid, but guess what, you dont get it with it.
all it had was seat covers and a decal really. ah but when its for pretty much nothing i suppose any one would take it no matter how poxy the extras may be.

(Report)
September 13th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
You sure, cause when he got the contract all the other drivers were giving him heaps for how how much he was on? He spent mega bucks on a new house on the water a boat and a $400.000 Winnebago at the time he signed again with them.I thought Lowndes was on around $800.00 -$900.000 a year $200.000 seems too low a year considering what the footy players get and theres more off them. If your right $200.000 is way too low for a pro driver! No wonder Ambrose left!

no im not sure of the actual money he is on i just find it hard to believe he is on $1m ++ a year. and even more than lowndes especially since lowndes does a lot more PR work.
where would you find it out i know its publicly available the amount those guys get

Big news here.Skaife out of Sandown 500!!!!
13/9/07
HOLDEN Racing Team’s Mark Skaife was rushed to hospital this morning with appendicitis and is unlikely to participate in this weekend’s Just Car Insurance Sandown 500.
Skaife’s wife Toni said this afternoon; “There’s only a remote chance that Mark would be okay to drive. He suffered stomach pains last night then went to a doctor this morning where scans revealed his appendix should be removed.
“The operation finished up being a normal procedure, but Mark was really disappointed that such a thing should happen at this time of year,” she said.
Meanwhile, Team Manager Robbie Starr was on the hunt for a replacement driver.
“If Mark is out, we will pair up Todd Kelly and Nathan Pretty in Todd’s #22 Commodore and we believe ex-HRT Bathurst winner Tony Longhurst will share with Glenn Seton in Mark’s #2,” said Starr.
“We hope to fly him down to Melbourne from the Gold Coast tonight in time for practice tomorrow.”

I don’t care if Mclaren are debt free surely a fine like that even if they do turn over roughly $538 million that’s a lot of money to spend on development in the future for them if they still had it.And they lost their point for the manufactures Championship. No one like a cheat!
On a happy note Russell was second behind Brighty today in practice. Poor Russ never qualifies well on the day though go the Fords!!!!!! HAHAHA something I just noticed when I spell checked this then,Skaffie comes up as Sadie! Maybe its correct ,na he makes the mess doesn’t clean it up!

What about Richard Hammond having another accident this week.I have just cut and posted this for you.
Race about to start where you are ,talk later.
” Hammond, 37, was shunted off the track during an endurance race at the Silverstone track near Northampton at the weekend.
“Richard wasn’t hurt at all, but the car was damaged,” a BBC spokesman said.
“It was taken back to the pits and repaired before Richard carried on with the race.”
Hammond was taking part in a 24-hour race called Britcar 24 Hour with co-presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May and the show’s anonymous professional racing driver, The Stig.”

Your right about the best driver combo it seems almost everyone except 888 had a rooky or a retired driver as co driver.I thought the new tech drawings were good for a while but got in the way of the coverage after a while. Makes you wonder why they need a clutch though it seems they flat change most of the time,I have to laugh at foot cam though how they have one foot on the brake and the accelerator at the same time, not sure if you have ever driven a carbureted car that wont idle at the traffic light you do the same thing, toes on the brake and heel on the acc pedal to stop it stalling, hahaha ah the good old days

Funny how they have approached this project as when they did the 40th anniversary special they said they need orders first before they would look at making one ,this time there releasing the Cobra without advertising the fact its coming, apart from the leaks were getting we wouldn’t have known it was coming ?

Hey Boss,
You could try www.dreamscience.eu/australila or www.fordmods.com They’re a couple of forums who’ll put you in touch with the right people.
Alternately give the guys at Castlemaine Rod Shop a call. They make a few kits (CRS Superchargers) for Holden & Ford themselves and I’m sure could steer you in the right direction.
Cheers Matt.

Have picked up my new Cobra a bit over a week ago, and for all the disbelievers, it drives a whole heap better than any of the BA/BF GT’s I have driven in the past. At 400km on the odometer the engine is livening up quite nicely, and the R-Spec suspension handles just great. Cost was the quoted RRP + on-roads, and I ordered it in July 07. Thanks go to Dave at Centre Ford for looking after me.
I have to feel sorry for the people who paid dealer-inflated prices of $82K and $93K that I have heard about…
For the record, all 8 pot FPV’s built after Sept 07 on have the 302kW Boss motor, so the bonnet decals are correct. And I believe that McInerney’s in Morley have an Auto for sale if anyone is keen.
