2017 Audi S3 pricing and specs: More power and tech for new hot models

Local pricing and specifications for the updated 2017 Audi S3 range have been revealed, alongside the regular A3 range.

Starting at $62,900 plus on-road costs for the S3 Sportback and topping out at $72,000 for the S3 cabriolet, the facelifted hot hatch, sedan and drop-top all see the addition of new equipment, technology, and a slight power bump over the outgoing model.

All S3 models now produce 213kW/380Nm from their 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines, a 3kW boost over the cars they replace, though short of the 228kW/400Nm tune of European versions.

Sportback and sedan models sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker), while ticking the no-cost option box for the six-speed manual sees that time increase to 5.4 seconds.

Meanwhile, the cabriolet model completes the benchmark test in a claimed 5.3 seconds.

For 2017, Audi's 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster is fitted as standard to S3 models, along with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) up to 65km/h with pedestrian protection, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

Also standard on the S3 are full-LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, blind spot monitoring, lane-keep warning, nappa leather sports seats, 7.0-inch MMI navigation plus system with live traffic updates, DAB+ digital radio and a 10-speaker Audi sound system.

However, it wouldn't be an Audi if there wasn't an extensive options list, including two S performance packages ($4537/$6487) which add diamond-patterned sports seats, Audi magnetic ride control, Bang & Olufsen sound system, red brake calipers and different alloys - larger 19-inch rims on the more expensive package.

Also available is an assistance package ($1950) which brings high-tech safety features like adaptive cruise control with stop/go function; Audi pre-sense front, which provides extended collision warnings at speeds of up to 200km/h; high beam assist; and active lane assistance, along with a hold function that holds the vehicle on gradients indefinitely to "enable smooth driving".

Individual features can also be optioned, including three more alloy wheel designs that aren't included in the packages, along with two no-cost and 10 cost-option paint finishes, automatic parking assistant ($650), privacy glass ($910), a panoramic sunroof ($2535) and red nappa leather upholstery ($1287).

Stay tuned for our review of the 2017 Audi A3 and S3 range.
