Hyundai Avante LPI Hybrid spied testing in Sydney

Updated 4th December @ 10.30am:

A diligent CarAdvice reader has spotted a Hyundai Avante LPI Hybrid testing in the Sydney suburb of North Ryde yesterday.

The LHD Avante (formerly Lantra) seen in these pics shows an LPI badge on the right hand side of the boot signaling testing of Hyundai's long awaited LPG / electric hybrid vehicle is now under way here in Australia.

Like its Kia Cerato cousin, the Hyundai Avante LPI will most likely feature a 1.6-litre dedicated LPG engine (producing approximately 92kW) coupled to an electric motor.

Hyundai's Media Specialist, Mr Stephen Howard, told a disappointed CarAdvice today that:

"Hyundai brought this vehicle out (to Australia) for initial local testing, however we can now confirm we will not be receiving this vehicle.

"The vehicle is still in Australia and is still going through evaluation by our technical teams for HMC."
