2017 Skoda Octavia RS230 pricing and specs: Powered-up special edition hits Australia

The 2017 Skoda Octavia RS230, touted as the fastest Octavia ever, is now on sale in Australia.

After being confirmed for our market over a year ago, the limited-edition Octavia RS230 is now available - in limited numbers - to Australian customers, starting at $41,490 plus on-road costs for the 'liftback' sedan and $43,190 plus ORCs for the wagon.

Headlining the special-edition sedan and wagon is an upgraded engine and the addition of an electronically-controlled locking front differential - both borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance.

Under the bonnet is a 169kW/350Nm version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine - up from 162kW - which allows the Octavia RS230 sedan to sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds (6.8 seconds for the wagon) on its way to a top speed of 250km/h (247km/h wagon).

However, unlike the Golf GTI Performance, which is exclusively available with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the Octavia RS230 is only offered in Australia with a six-speed manual shifter.

Distinguishing the RS230 from 'regular' Octavia RS models are numerous gloss-black styling elements, including 19-inch 'Xtreme' alloy wheels, rear spoiler, door mirrors, front grille and tailpipes.

The black rear spoiler and black exhaust tips are exclusive to the RS230, along with the lap timer function on the multifunction display.

Inside, the RS230 gets black leather seats with contrasting red stitching, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel trimmed in perforated leather with red stitching, and stainless steel pedals.

Other standard equipment includes electrically-adjustable front sport seats with memory, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Buyers can option the Tech Pack ($1700), which adds driver assistance technologies like automatic parking, lane assist, keyless entry and start, along with a 10-speaker Canton sound system.

Only 70 examples of the Skoda Octavia RS230 are available, across the sedan and wagon range, though the Czech brand is hoping to secure more for Australia.
