Mercedes-AMG E-Class All-Terrain uncertain

Combining the rugged toughness of a plastic-clad SUV with the usefulness of a wagon is no new concept by any means, but there’s a lot to like about that package with some AMG fettling…

It seems, however, there will be no imminent arrival of a Mercedes-AMG E-Class All-Terrain.

According to Mercedes-Benz Australia, that won’t be happening any time soon. “There might be the option of an AMG styling package,” Jerry Stamoulis, Manager for Public Relations and Product Communications told CarAdvice at the recent launch of the C43 Coupe.

“At this stage though, there are no immediate plans for an AMG variant of this vehicle."

Those looking to score an AMG-tuned version of a Mercedes SUV aren't short on options, of course.

In the current line-up, choices include the small GLA45, the mid-sized GLC43 and GLC43 Coupe, large GLE63 and GLE63 Coupe, the even bigger GLS63, and of course the rugged G63.

As for the E-Class All-Terrain, the high-riding wagon will be offered in E220d form initially, with power provided by a 143kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel.

A six-cylinder diesel will join the range later, and while Mercedes hasn't specified, it could be a 190kW/620Nm E350d - as is offered already in sedan and wagon form.
