2017 Subaru Impreza pricing and specs: Australian details for all-new hatch and sedan

Local pricing and details for the all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza sedan and hatch have been released today, with the new range now available to order in Australia ahead of December customer deliveries.

Launched to the Australian media in Japan last month (catch Matt Campbell's review here), the new Impreza is the first car to debut on Subaru's all-new modular platform that will eventually underpin just about every future offering from the brand.

The new range kicks off in Australia from $22,400 plus on-road costs for the 2.0i sedan, topping out at $29,190 for the 2.0S hatch, again before on-road costs. (Full pricing listed below.)

Power in the 2017 Impreza range is provided by a revised 2.0-litre four-cylinder 'boxer' engine, although outputs don't vary much from the previous unit. Power is now rated at 115kW, up from 110kW, while torque remains unchanged at 196Nm. Premium (95RON) fuel is also required.

Unlike the outgoing generation, which offered a manual in entry-level trim grades, the new Impreza family is available exclusively with a CVT automatic transmission.

Fuel figures for the Australian range are still to come.

The Impreza sedan measures 4.63 metres long, 1.78m wide and 1.45m tall and it rides on a longer 2.67m wheelbase, where its predecessor measured 4.58m long and rode on a 2.64m wheelbase. Both are about 4cm wider, and each rides 1cm lower to improve aerodynamics.

Rear storage in the hatch is listed at 345 litres with the back seats up, marking a slight increase of five litres. Seats-down figures are still to come, as are sedan figures. The boot opening in the hatch is now 10cm wider, although there remains a notably high boot lip and a sizeable ridge at the seat hinges when folded forward.

Standard features in the all-new Impreza include a new-generation infotainment system, with a 6.5-inch display in the entry 2.0i model packing both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The system also includes aux/USB ports and Bluetooth phone/media connectivity.

There's also 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control, auto stop-start, Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system, a rear spoiler for the hatch, rear-view camera, cloth trim, and steering-mounted audio and cruise controls.

Upgrading to the 2.0L hatch ups the screen size to 8.0 inches, while adding a 6.3-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster, a 'premium' cloth trim, a leather steering wheel and gear shifter trim, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, electric folding mirrors with integrated signals, and front fog lights with integrated LED daytime lights.

The 2.0L also adds Subaru's EyeSight collision-avoidance and adaptive cruise-control driver assist system, with front-facing stereo cameras mounted next to the rear-view mirror.

A 2.0P level mirrors the 2.0L specification but adds an electric sunroof and satellite navigation - meaning you'll be using Carplay or Android Auto for sat-nav in the 2.0i and 2.0L models.

The top-spec 2.0S variant adds 18-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, automatic headlights and wipers, heated front seats and mirrors, leather trim, and an eight-way powered driver's seat.

Safety enhancement specific to the 2.0S include Active Torque Vectoring, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert and steering-sensitive LED headlights with integrated daytime lights.

Subaru has also confirmed new extended servicing intervals for the Impreza range. In the first three years of the company's Capped Price Service Program, the total cost of servicing new generation Impreza is $1298.19 - marking a saving of just under $920 when compared to the outgoing model.

However, while the period between services has changed from six months to 12, the kilometres remains unchanged at 12,500km.

NOTE: Japanese model shown, Australian photos still to come.
