I am sure that it is complicated, but whats stopping GM of letting it go and selling it instead of closing it down? Is the upkeeping too much for koenigsegg?

What is Saab's market? Front wheel drive, semi-luxury Swedish sedans and convertibles? If thats something your in the market for you'll still be able to buy a Volvo, so no great loss??

I'm not surprised I could never see the point of Saab, other car companies have their niche be it cheap, reliable, sporty, luxurious, safe, stylish or what ever but Saab was never really any of these they just were in the middle ground of everything.

If you are refering to the car in the picture, that's a Koenigsegg, not a Saab

Is that a SAABsidiary?

In all seriousness though, that is a bummer. Would have been interesting to see the heads at Koenigsegg and SAAB combine and what may have come of it...

If they put the new 9-5 on sale (if they had enough money to actually make it/engineer it, surely they could put in on sale?) I reckon that much needed funds could be injected into the brand. But as Alex said, I really think this could be the end for them. Saab used to be one of the most fantastic and interesting brands on sale and my dad had a 9000 Turbo, which was great! Now though, the 9-3 is getting really old (talk about a disappointment in Forza Motorsport 3, the 9-3 Turbo X) and the old 9-5 :S. BUT the new 9-5 looks great, and is sure to be great (especially based on the Insignia platform).

GM, wait a few months to decide whether you really need to sell Saab or not. I think you might find you do need to sell them, but definitely not shut them down. They don't deserve it.

I have a bad feeling that that's the end of Saab. If GM had any sense they'd drop all the awful American brands and keep Saab. They could make huge cars with huge engines to sell to the Americans but they'd also still have a European market. Saab has a future if someone can give them a chance but GM won't and Koenigsegg can't.
And I was looking forward to driving that new 9-5...
