Tesla sets up shop in Chadstone, Melbourne: New showroom marks second retail-only launch
Tesla has closed down its long-standing display at Melbourne's mecca of shopping, Chadstone, but it's not gone for good.
As of today, Tesla now has a permanent store in the new $660 million extension to the Chadstone centre, marking just the second retail-only space the American electric vehicle brand has opened in Australia.
The new space joins the showroom and service centres located in Richmond, Victoria and on Sydney's Lower North Shore, along with the recently opened Martin Place retail store.
The store's opening forms part of Tesla's direct-to-customer business model, which has made the company a focus of some controversy in the US. The hands-on approach sees customers dealing exclusively with the brand, rather than through a franchise dealer, as is often - although not always - the case with most other brands.
As with the other locations, the Chadstone store will display the Model S sedan and new Model X SUV. And, while one is not yet available to view in the country, shoppers will also be able to learn more about the upcoming Model 3.
The company's Destination Charging station remains in place, allowing Tesla owners shopping at Chadstone to charge their vehicle while benefiting from priority parking.
