2017 Kia Rondo pricing and specs: Refreshed MPV gets sharpened pricing, streamlined range

Local pricing and specifications for the updated 2017 Kia Rondo range have been revealed, bringing a simplified line-up and lightly revised look to the small MPV.

For the new model year, the Rondo Platinum variant has been deleted, bringing the number of grades to two.

Both variants are powered exclusively by a 122kW/213Nm 2.0-litre GDI petrol engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The entry-level five-seater S starts at $26,990 plus on-road costs, while the seven-seat Si retails for $31,490 plus on-roads, bringing the entry point down by $4500 over last year's model.

Kia believes the new twin-model approach will appeal to the “thinking private buyer”, while the five-seater base model will also provide an option for the fleet market.

Standard across the range are 16-inch wheels (steel on S, alloys on Si), rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, and cruise control with speed limiter.

The Si also gets satellite navigation fitted as standard.

Luggage capacity for the five-seat S is quoted at 536 litres with the second row up, expanding to 1694 litres with the rear seats folded.

Meanwhile, the seven-seat Si boasts a still-impressive 492L/1650L boot with the seats up/folded respectively.

Like the updated Soul, however, the Australian-market Rondo will miss out on numerous features that are available in overseas markets.

In Europe, where the Rondo is known as the Carens, customers are offered alloy wheels ranging up to 18 inches in diameter, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Top-spec models can be specified with a six-speaker JBL sound system, complete with a subwoofer and an external amplifier.

With the deletion of the Platinum variant, the Rondo also doesn’t offer Australian buyers a model with leather seats.

The Rondo’s most recent update came in September 2015, which saw the diesel engine dropped from the line-up and satellite-navigation made standard across the range - which has since been changed again with the 2017 refresh.

Like the rest of the Kia range, the Rondo comes with the company’s market-leading seven-year, unlimited kilometre warranty with seven years capped-price servicing and seven years roadside assistance.

The 2017 Kia Rondo range also maintains a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
