Australian pricing and specifications for the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and GLE43 lines have been announced this week, adding four new models to the company’s growing performance range.
Interestingly, the GLC43 wagon is $500 cheaper than the C43 sedan, and is only 0.2 seconds slower from 0-100km/h.
Standard kit includes 21-inch AMG allow wheels, AMG exterior styling, Airbody Control suspension with selective damping, leather upholstery, Comand Online navigation system, head-up display, Burmester surround sound system and a diamond-pattern grille.
Meanwhile, the larger GLE43 and GLE43 Coupe are also en route, with the style-focused coupe version replacing the current GLE450 AMG variant.
Starting at $133,616 and $143,616 respectively, the larger GLE43 twins sit above the turbo-diesel GLE350d and below the GLE500 (wagon) and AMG GLE 63 S (Coupe).
The GLE43 wagon and GLE 43 Coupe feature 21-inch and 22-inch AMG alloy wheels respectively, along with AMG exterior body styling, Dynamic Select driving modes, air suspension, Active Curve System, adaptive damping system, and a Harmon Kardon surround sound system.
All models come equipped with nine airbags, a 360-degree camera system, LED headlights with adaptive high-beam assist, along with the Driver Assistance Plus package which includes Distronic Plus with steering assist, lane keep assist, active blind spot assist and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection.
Powering all four SUVs is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, producing 270kW of power and 520Nm of torque, it’s not known why the GLE43 doesn’t get the same 295kW tune as the E43 sedan and wagon.
Shifting gears is the company’s nine-speed automatic transmission, which has been tuned to deliver quicker shift times and multiple downshifts.
Power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-AMG’s Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system, which is rear-wheel biased, sending 31 per cent of torque to the front axle and 69 per cent to the rear.
The new Mercedes-AMG models are available now from Mercedes-Benz dealerships, though the GLC43 Coupe will arrive in early 2017.
