Nissan GT-R Nismo:: Australian launch confirmed, priced at $299,000

The vicious Nissan GT-R Nismo supercar will hit Australian showrooms in February 2017, the company’s local arm has confirmed.

The amped-up 2017 Godzilla flagship will hit showrooms priced at $299,000 plus on-road costs, $72,000 more than the GT-R Track Edition and $110,000 more than the ‘regular’ MY17 GT-R Premium.

The arrival of the GT-R Nismo will spearhead the belated arrival of the Nismo brand in Australia, with hotted-up versions of other models to follow in time. Nissan has been talking about launching the Nismo brand here for more than two years, but now it finally appears to be reaching fruition.

The launch of the sub-brand in Australia will coincide with the 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour GT3 sportscar race at Mount Panorama, where two factory-entered Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 entries will aim to repeat the GT-R’s 2015 victory.

“Nismo an exciting addition to our Australian business,” said Nissan Australia managing director and CEO Richard Emery.

“The Nismo brand is already well known in Australia through its heritage and motorsport success. It is great news that Australia will now have access to Nismo products, starting with the mighty GT-R Nismo.”

The GT-R Nismo packs a tuned version of the car’s signature hand-made 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with 441kW and 652Nm — up 22kW/20Nm over the regular model, and likely shaving a tenth or two from its 2.7-second 0-100km/h time.

The beast’s engine actually uses the same pair of high-flow, large diameter turbochargers at the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 race car. As per usual, the GT-R Nismo sports all-wheel drive and a six-speed dual-clutch with magnesium paddle shifters.

Performance is improved via tweaked shocks, springs and stabilisers, which along with the stiffer body and improved aerodynamics are said to improved slalom and cornering ability. It also features extensive use of carbon-fibre.

Crucially, the GT-R’s special Bilstein DampTronic driver-adjustable system — which utilises multiple vehicle information systems to provide appropriate damping forces — features special Nismo-tuned shock absorbers.

The GT-R Nismo inherits the heavily revised interior that’s used in the rest of the 2017 GT-R range, which includes a new streamlined and higher-quality dashboard, an 8.0-inch touchscreen display with remote control knob, and a new steering wheel.

Prior to its February 2017 launch, the first Australian orders of the 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo will be offered “to loyal GT-R owners”. These customers will be contacted over the coming months.
