Hyundai i30 N spotted testing in Austria

CarAdvice's Curt Dupriez, currently holidaying in Europe, was on hand to snap this pic of Hyundai's performance hatch which is due to go on sale in 2017.

Hyundai's first genuine hot hatch, the forthcoming i30 N, has been spotted by CarAdvice while undergoing performance testing at the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Mountain Road in Austria.

While little is known about i30 N, it's rumoured to powered by a direct-injection 2.0-litre turbo pumping out somewhere in the region of 180-195kW. If the speculation proves accurate, that will place the reigning king of hot hatches, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, firmly in the crosshairs of the i30 N. The Golf currently produces 162kW in standard trim or 169kW with the optional performance pack.

The sighting comes just days before the Paris motor show where Hyundai is expected to reveal its Hyundai N Concept RN30, what it calls a "beefed-up, motorsport inspired racing concept".
