KRINK MINI
November 23, 2009 by Alborz Fallah
The Mini has lots of paint options to chose from but one Mini in Hamburg has had a one of a kind paint job. The legendary New York street artist Craig “KR” Costello has painted a Mini in his trade mark style.
His style is known as the KRINK (from KR-INK) dripping ink look. The black Mini was covered in the silver dripping paint, its body as well as the side and rear windows. Accompanied by the “Erste Liebe Film” and captured by photographer Ali Salehi.
Craig “KR” Costello became known in the 90’s art scene with his dripping silver paint style, leading to the KRINK brand. His work can be seen in cities around the world, in building entrances, on walls, underground stations and street signs.
Experimenting with homemade paint his product evolved in to the range it is today, initially it was limited and handed out to friends. But now consists of a wide range of special markers and inks that enjoy a cult status.

a cheaper option would be to leave a “please grafitti me” sign at ANY sydney train station…
Wtf, why not give that car to someone who needs one and destroy their bombs paint!! Seriously bored no life brainless hoodies run around doing this. Mr Costello could have actually done this properly but no.. With the same effort level and intelligence as a unemployed paint sniffing hobo with a permanent marker, he just lets the paint get all over the windows and fittings.
Jekyl, it’s not graffiti and I somehow doubt you’d have this done if you left a “Please Graffiti Me” sign on your car.
I think it looks brilliant! It’s nice to see a completely individual Mini. They’ve discontinued a few colours lately, even yellow, and there’s only about eight to choose from right now which is pretty disappointing. Especially considering that they replace the ones they remove with pretty uninspiring and dull colours. If there’s no choice there’s no individuality, so genuinely good looking paint jobs like this are great.
“GENUINELY GOOD LOOKING PAINT JOB” quote…
YOU think…
I’m gonna guess that you’re the sort of person who walks into an art gallery and thinks “Why?”.
i got nothing against nude women paintings, and just couldn’t do that to my car,(maybe a combi van but)…
Yep, just as I thought.
actually i’m not the sort to go anywhere near an art gallery,i’ll leave that to the “old money, arty farty, gay guy brigade”.best your get your coin out and buy if then,if you think so much of it.should be good for the love life(cough)….
Alex, I think you might have this peice of “Art” confused with a duco change on a street going car. This is not a “modified for street” car, though given the complete lack of detail in this article, I can see where some might get confused.
I think we can assume that this car is not destined for street use, nor is it likely to become a new paint colour option from Mini!
This car is no longer street legal as the windows are so obscured and the added weight and reduction in aerodynamic efficiency will play havoc with fuel efficiency.
More likey, this is purely a piece of art (for marketing purposes). It will likely spend some time in a gallery or get sold off at a charity auction (for storage indefinately in someones garage or showroom).
The fact that Car Advice think this is a worthy story when they have none of these pertinent details is laughable.
Get some facts of your own, AF, before posing pretty pictures with zero story.
“Car company Mini provided artist KR with a Cooper S to customize in Hamburg, Germany.”
“It was all part of an urban marketing campaign, which saw Mini ask KRINK’s Craig Costello to paint a Mini Cooper, now on display at Vicious Gallery in Germany.”
“Erste Liebe Film” filmed the “stunt”:

So, to summarise, this is ADVERTISING. It’s a beat-up to increase sales to another demographic.
It’s not news.
Did BMW-Mini fund this placement?
Grrrr.
Pffft get over yourself NacaYoda, is every car road test advertising considering the car company provides the car?
I know it’s not going to become an option, but a lot of people do a lot of vulgar things to their cars to make them individual (ever seen a skull painted on a Commodore bonnet?) and though this Mini obviously can no longer be used, I think it looks excellent and it was worth while.
No Thanks.
What a waste of a mini, paint, oxygen and webspace
Brilliant marketing exercise for both KRINK and MINI … Who would’ve thought something so stupid would look so good?
I think it is a wise move from Mini to assosciate their cars with art and famous artists. This paint job in particular looks perfect, I think. Even if it was hugely expensive and the windows weren’t painted, I think it could be a popular option for Mini buyers looking for somethin different.
It looks like some bloke has cheated on his wife and she has taken revenge on the poor Mini with some paint.
