Prius could outsell Camry says US Toyota boss
November 19, 2009 by Matt Brogan
US President of Toyota Motor Sales, Mr Jim Lentz, has said during an interview this week that he believes the company’s Prius hybrid model could beat long-time favourite Camry sedan as the company’s best selling product in the United States.
“I think long-term, Prius as a nameplate could even outsell Camry as a nameplate, into this next decade,” Mr Lentz said.
Currently, Toyota sells more than twice as many Camrys than Prius’ in the US, but that number could change should Toyota decide to produce a whole range of Prius-badged hybrid vehicles.

But then it would be a whole range of cars trying to beat a single car. Just goes to show the enormous sales of the Camry in the States.
Depending on the month (and the economical enivronment ofcourse) the Camry sells between 25 000 – 40 000 units per months in the US. Camry drivetrains in the North American market includes the new more powerful yet more efficent 2.5 4-cyl mated to either a 6-speed auto or manual, the 3.5 V6 / 6 speed auto as we ge there in Oz (Aurion) and the hybrid.
The regular tuned 2.5-cyl is equavalent to 125kw (HP in yanky terms) while the Sports Edition which is identical to the Australian Sportivo gets a slight bump up to 133kw.
Wow!! Some more no-name black and gold brand from KMart. Buying a Toyota is like buying a fridge, you buy on price to keep things cool, nothing outstanding mind just a fridge, which is what they are.
