Nissan GT-R latest police issue in UAE

By Matt Brogan |

The United Arab Emirates may have taken its reputation for conspicuous consumption to a whole new level with the Abu Dhabi police department’s latest purchase seeming just a little over the top.

Yes folks the Abu Dhabi police department took the wraps of its latest cruiser on Monday as the city hosted the F1 Grand Prix — a 2010 Nissan GT-R.

Decked out in full police livery, the Nissan GT-R is sure to give criminals in Abu Dhabi second thoughts about running from the law.

I’m surprised they don’t have a fleet of them, no doubt they’d be able to afford it.

  • Carl

How could it possibly be a 2010 car? We’re still in 2009

  • DE

You don’t actually know much about the automotive industry then?
    It’s a 2010 “Model Year” not 2010 “Build”.

A bit like Summer fashions selling in Spring.

I get what Carl is saying, I also think it confuses the issue.
The car will be plated an ’09 model, so it is an ’09 model.
if they want to change their specs in June of ’09, its still an ’09 spec because is was built and designed in ’09.

Ill trust you on your summer dresses eg (cause its not my strong point)

2010 spec car, bit like a calendar, they don’t print them all on January 1st of that year, the car has to be ready and available at the start of the year, not six weeks after production starts.

    • DE

SNAP, but I like my metaphorical explanation better. It’s a bit simpler for those that need it.

very in touch with your feminine side!!!

Who says a 2010 model must be ready for purchase on the 1st of Jan???

I think its even more out of sync that a car built with 6 months left in ’09 can be labelled a 2010 spec

So if a model comes out today with no planned changes whatso ever for 18 months, can it be called a 2011 spec??

I agree that the whole calling the year 6 months earlier is silly and pointless

Wouldn’t something like this be completely necessary? With all the Bugattis, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, McLarens and Aston Martins running about the place, something properly fast is exactly what they need.

They should have helicopters aswell, they might not be able to stop the speeding car, but they make for great co ordination devices in directing ground units to the perpetrator

      • MJ

I bet the UAE government doesnt care about speeding cars. In Germany, Malaysia, India, etc. they dont really car how fast you drive as long as you and your car are capable of the speed.

The Northern Territory government had the same attitude, until recently. :-(

        • Car fanatic

Really? Cause my bet is if you sped through the centre of any German town or city, you’d get pinged and if you are foreign watch out.

Might be worth getting arrested over there just to get a ride in the beast!

    • Peter

Maybe, but if you have legs, you wont fit in the back seat.
