With a range of vehicles starting from $378,900 (plus on-road costs), Lamborghini is thrilled with its Australian sales results, with numbers up by over 60 per cent.
Andrea Baldi, head of Lamborghini Asia Pacific, spoke with CarAdvice last week at a Lamborghini event in Japan, saying that he is amazed with the numbers, especially when it came to the brand’s most expensive models, the Lamborghini Aventador SV and SV Roadster.
“Australia is a perfect market for it [the Aventador SV], they [Australians] know their cars and they know what they want to buy. The SV really is appealing in many senses. The Huracan didn’t surprise me, in the sense that we were expecting the growth, we have grown from 40 cars on average per year to over 100. The market has grown and we have good product,” Baldi said.
“Like the Aventador, the Huracan is appreciated. They test drive it and they like it… then they buy it.”
But, Baldi wasn’t so impressed with a buyer that bought an Aventador SV only to then immediately list it for sale when it arrived. Baldi suggested that it meant the Aventador SV may be underpriced, despite its astronomical $891,500 (plus on-road costs) Coupe and $925,300 (plus on-road costs) Roadster starting prices.
“A customer put the car immediately on sale because he realised the demand is so high. He put it on for over $200,000 more. So if he is able to sell… I don’t like this attitude, very frankly speaking, for a car like this we only want to give it to people that really want it,” Baldi said.
“He did it… it was something I don’t like, but for $200,000 more, if he sells it, maybe we made a mistake with pricing. That car configured was around $1 million Australian dollars and he is trying to sell it for $1.2 million now.”
Either way, Lamborghini sales in Australia are going from strength to strength. This time last year, the brand only delivered eight vehicles in August for a running total of 77 vehicles. This year, the August number jumped to 13 vehicles, with the running total sitting at a staggering 104 vehicles.
