The 2017 Land Rover Discovery has been teased again this week, ahead of its official reveal later this month, wrapped in a disguise covered in children’s drawings.

Dubbed ‘Kids Camouflage’, the special disguise features drawings by children aged between five and nine, depicting their favourite days out.

Land Rover says a significant part of its product development is having a team of children testing, challenging and representing the needs of the modern family every day.

To acknowledge this, the company decided to have kids design the final camouflage before the all-new model gets revealed in a few weeks’ time.

Alex Heslop, chief engineer for the new Discovery, said: “Being able to get the children involved in our final camouflage design brought a smile to all our faces”.

“They don’t always realise it, but these kids have played a major role in developing the new Discovery.”

Last week Land Rover previewed the new Discovery, revealing the car’s face – which draws much of its sleeker design from the smaller Discovery Sport and luxury-focused Range Rover models.

The interior has also been partially revealed in one of the images, which shows seats not dissimilar to those in the smaller Discovery Sport, while a rear sunroof  for the rear passengers is also visible.

First previewed by the Discovery Vision concept in 2014, the new off-roader will replace the ageing Discovery 4, which, underneath, is essentially the same car as the Discovery 3 that first launched in 2003.

While Land Rover has kept tight-lipped about what’s to come, it’s likely the new Discovery will ride on the same platform that underpins the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

Using this aluminium-intensive architecture, the Discovery should see significant weight losses, which will make it significantly quicker, more agile and more economical than the circa-2600kg current generation.

Also in the pipeline is a SVX-badged variant that will bring more power and an even sportier look, courtesy of Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division.

Stay tuned for the Land Rover Discovery’s official reveal on September 28 ahead of its debut at the Paris motor show, which starts on October 1.
