2018 Alpine ‘A120’ spied

The camouflaged prototype seen here looks remarkably similar to the Vision concept that was unveiled in the middle of February this year, with the major differences being the alloy wheel design, proper external door handles, and roadworthy wing mirrors.

There are also some minor detailing differences around the front and rear bumpers.

A report in July claimed that the new Alpine coupe will use a stroked version of the Clio RS' motor. If true, there will be new 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine wedged between the passenger compartment and the rear axle.

The stroked engine said to produce around 185kW, with a potential future high performance variant reported to extract around 225kW from the same unit.

Although the name of the new Alpine coupe has yet to be confirmed, rumours suggest that it will be badged as the A120 in honour of the brand's classic A110 model.

Australia

Justin Hocevar, Renault Australia's managing director, told CarAdvice recently that the Alpine coupe will have a starting price of between $75,000 and $90,000.

Although timing for the vehicle's local launch has yet to be confirmed, it's widely expected that the coupe and the resuscitated brand will arrive in Australia some time in 2018.
