Lexus introduces premium rear seat entertainment
November 17, 2009 by Matt Brogan
Premium Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) is now available in the Lexus RX range.
The rear seat passengers can now be entertained with video, music and games. Each unit has side loading DVD slot, a USB port, MP3 compatible, and AUX input for games consoles.
Both units can work separately or together with easy to use controls or a remote control.
The units have eight inch colour screens with high resolution widescreen format. Passengers are able to use infrared wireless headphones leaving the front passengers in peace. The units are fitted to the back of the front seats, not the headrest. This allows the in-built active headrest to work properly in the event of an accident. The units have been crash tested to ensure passenger safety and have no sharp edges so as to reduce the chance of injury.
Manufactured by materials to match the interior, the units also offer a premium look.

That looks ridiculous.
That goes for the RX dash too in my opinion.
We have an RX350 2007 model as our family car and this is yet another car where I am happy to have the older model.
As you say Jake the new dash looks ridiculous.
Rolling on the floor laughing at how stupid they look
The screens should be hidden into the seats when not in use, having a normal seat finish, when activated they then should come out from the seats to reveal what you see in the above images. All luxury brands should have this! This unforntumately in my opinion does look a bit ugly for a Lexus.
i don’t see the point, hey! let’s play a video game in the car as mum is taking the lexus to the corner shop! 1 minutes of play wow
If you think that looks funny, I suppose you haven’t seen the optional screens available in the “BMW Individual” catalogue for the 7 series?
I think most units like these look a bit tacky on any car brand, I think only if Rolls -Royce or Bentley did this then it would have look pretty good.
To give credit though to Lexus, the specs on the unit itself seem quite good, but no 3G or Blue Ray. Don’t most kids riding in in the back of luxury cars now just play with their iPhones anyway to stay connected to the Internet and social network sites?
