Mazda have their own ‘sky-g/sky-d’ range of engines in the pipeline however I don’t know yet how closely related they are if at all now that Ford owns even less of Mazda. For information, if the ecoboost is related to the current 2.0L duratec engine (mainly the block design as the heads would be different due DI etc) then technically it is Ford adopting a Mazda designed engine as the current duratec 4 cyl range are based off the Mazda MZR 4cyl block. Will be interesting to see how it all goes. It looks promising, however generally Australians are afraid of changes so it probably won’t be that successful here.

Ecoboost 3.5 is currently in Fords 2010 Taurus SHO and will find it’s way into Flex, MKS & MKT…..

they’ll only use the 3.5l ecoboost in the falcon if and when they decide to stop making the I6. the 2 engines are too similar in power/torque for them to make them both available at the same time.

with news (or rumours) coming out of the states that ford’s going to be making an ecoboosted version of the coyote v8 for the mustang, i can’t wait for them to slot that into the falcon…that would be sweet…

In my opinion, the FG Falcon looks better in every way than the Taurus. As for the engines, I wonder if Ford will decide to use the 3.5L Ecoboost in the Falcon. It would be very interesting if they did.

And i wonder if Mazda will adopt ecoboost into its mainstream models.

Silly question time

If a Toyota Camry with a 2.4l 4cyl is classed as a midsize car & a Camry/Aurion with a 3.5l V6 is a large car. Will Ford be able to class the Falcon as a small car with a 2.0L motor?

Hey maybe even call it the worlds roomiest “small” car.

In North America it comes with a 6 cylinder Ecoboost engine.

The 4 cylinder is not available yet.

A basic Google search would show this!

The Taurus has the 3.5lt Ecoboost, as does the Flex. NOT the 2.0lt unit as mentioned.

And after seeing a Taurus in the flesh, there is something not quite right with the front end styling. I’d go for the FG.
