2017 Haval H6 pricing and specs

The Haval H6 medium SUV launched in Australia this week, giving the company’s local arm an answer to the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.

Billed as a “next generation” of Haval product, the H6 is taking it up to the segment’s major players with a new styling language, improved value and better driving dynamics. Haval, incidentally, is the biggest-selling SUV brand in its home market of China

No surprise then, it’s expected to be the company’s top-seller here, ahead of the smaller H2 and larger H8 and H9, with 250 sales expected before the end of the year.

Don’t forget that the medium SUV market in Australia is the biggest, fastest-growing and has the fewest competitors, so it’s fertile ground for conquest.

The Haval H6 will come in two trim levels, the Premium and the Lux. Befitting the brand’s positioning, they won’t undercut established players, but will instead go after them on specifications, the list of which is quite long as we detail below.

The Premium has a RRP of $31,990 plus on-road costs, while the Lux is $34,990. However, to drum up some interest, the company is retailing them at $29,990 drive-away and $31,990 drive-away until December 31, which makes each a little more alluring.

Under the bonnet of both is a Euro 5-compliant 143kW/315Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with claimed combined-cycle fuel economy of 9.8 litres per 100km, matched to a six-speed Getrag dual-clutch (wet) automatic transmission. Both specs are front-wheel drive. The AWD sold in China is manual-only.

At 4549mm long, 1835mm wide and sitting on a 2720mm wheelbase, the five-seat H6 is basically the same size as the top-selling Mazda CX-5 and co, and offers at least equivalent space.

While we may not know much about the Haval H6, it has sold more than a million units and is consistently the biggest-selling SUV in China. In the 2016 calendar year to date, it is the fifth biggest-selling SUV in the world, according to Haval.

From an ownership perspective, the H6 will come standard with a five-year/100,000km warranty and five years of roadside assistance.
