Porsche Cayenne Coupe rendering puts Panamera on stilts

The anticipated Porsche Cayenne Coupe has been speculatively rendered this week, giving a taste of what the German sports car company’s rumoured X6 fighter could look like.

Reports of a fast-backed SUV from Porsche have been circulating since 2014, and last month’s spy images of a jacked-up Panamera prototype further fed those rumours.

Now, these renderings from independent Dutch artist Remco Meulendijk give a glimpse of what the so-called Cayenne Coupe could look like.

Based on the next-generation Cayenne (which is still yet to be revealed), Meulendijk’s Cayenne Coupe appears to be based heavily on the design of the latest Porsche Panamera, with the front and rear sporting a similar design - though much taller - to the company’s large sedan.

The sloping roofline again echoes its Panamera stablemate while the meaty lower front and rear bumpers lend the Cayenne Coupe a very beefy aesthetic.

Underpinning the next-generation Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe will be the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform for front- and all-wheel drive vehicles with longitudinally-mounted engines - which already forms the basis of the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga.

The new Cayenne range will likely be powered by the powerplants seen in the new Panamera, which currently includes a 324kW/550Nm twin-turbo V6, a 310kW/850Nm twin-turbo V8 diesel and a 404kW/770Nm twin-turbo V8 petrol.

As with the current model, the next-gen Cayenne should also have less-powerful engine options that will be the heart of more affordable models - such as the six-cylinder turbo-diesel, along with an eco-friendly S e-Hybrid plug-in variant.

The Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe may also offer a fully-electric powertrain, to be shared with Audi’s upcoming Q6 e-tron - according to the UK’s Car Magazine.

Inside, the Cayenne Coupe is expected to borrow much from the new Panamera, namely the updated 12.3-inch Porsche Connect central infotainment system.

The next-generation 2018 Porsche Cayenne will likely be revealed sometime next year, with first deliveries commencing either late-2017 or early-2018.

If that proves to be true, the coupe version should debut around 2018, with the first versions hitting the road later that year or early in 2019.
