Lotus Esprit revival gets a green light – report

By Matt Brogan |

After what seems like years of conjecture from the brand, Lotus has, according to UK publication Autocar, given the green light to a replacement for its famed Esprit model.

The Esprit went out of production in 2004 but could be back on the roads by as early as next decade.

Set to be positioned above the Evora in terms of price, the Esprit has been described by at least one Lotus insider as an “essential brand image builder” and a “high-status purchase”.

Specification and technical details have not yet been revealed, though it is rumoured the supercar could share a version of the same 4.8-litre V8 engine as found in the recently launched Lexus LFA.

That is the best bit of car related news I have heard for a long time. Love the original shape and I hope the new Esprit is not too far off the mark there. Sign me up right now!

My fave was the S4. Can’t wait for the new one – let’s hope it lives up to the legend!

No, Lexus bosses ruled out sharing the LF-A engine with other brands and even other Lexus’. I think it will be a small capacity (think 3.5L), high-revving V8.

Should’ve just use the AurionV6 engine.
