Peugeot Partner Crew Van released in the UK

By Matt Brogan |

Peugeot’s Partner Van is now available in the UK and Europe as a five seat Crew Van.

Fitted with a modular rear seat, the Crew Van – based on the Partner L2 model – now offers the flexibility of carrying up to five passengers whilst still offering the same 1.8m load length and 3.3 m3 load volume as the standard L1 Partner Van, when the rear seats are folded away.

The Partner Crew Van comes standard with twin (unglazed) sliding side-loading doors and an integrated mesh bulkhead, effective both when the seats are in place and folded away.

Crew Van sounds very useful. It’s roomy and looks like it would fit 5-6 persons.

This type of vehicle would be ideal for me!! I want something with a bit of space, like a compact wagon, but just a little bit bigger, European, diesel, an everyday car that I can also use on the weekends to get away, seat’s 5 and that I can also use for work and drives and handles like a car.

I don’t know if the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi also comes with this option or not??

I’m also amazed that the other Euro’s don’t offer something like this in Australia?? I doubt the Holden Combo will be around for much longer, so that would just leave Volkswagen, Citreon and Renault, plus Fiat and Ford if they get their act’s together and offer compact LCV’s here.

Don’t think I like the idea of no windows for the back seat’s though, would much rather have windows there.

I wondered what will happen with the Combo, now that GM is holding onto Opel. Probabaly still fade into oblivion. Is there a new Combo on sale in Europe?

        • James007

Seeing Holden’s love of everything Daewoo, I can’t see the Opel based Combo sticking around for too long. Plus, there isn’t a diesel option either, something all the competition has. As far as I’m aware, there isn’t a new Combo on sale in Europe.

Yeah, I thought it strange that the Combo is still selling. I have a strange urge to read a review of it for some reason, but I can’t seem to find any.

I’ll give you all a review of a Combo. My mother uses four for her business.

The spec sheets have not been updated for a few years and since then they have power windows, air-con, four airbags and keyless entry as standard. It has a decent payload and a fair bit of space in the back although we fitted an aftermarket side window in ours to reduce the left blindspot.

As for the engine it’s a 1.4 with 63kW and 125nm hauling 1100kg+ so it’s a bit of a slug. You really have to rev it to keep it moving in traffic and it’s got nothing below 2500rpm as you would expect and it’s quite loud. The consequence of this is that it runs on the smell of an oily rag. We get below 7L/100km driving around town.

It’s not a bad drive actually. Being based on the XC Barina it has good steering and while it is sprung a bit more softly, still doesn’t roll too much around corners. The clutch is light and the gearshift is smooth.

We chose Combos because they were the cheapest in class and the best equipped. Because we are previous Renault owners and the ownership was far from pleasant we avoided the French with their high running-costs and poor reliability. The VW is considerably more expensive, the petrol is not as economical and the diesel is getting close to $10k more than a Combo. Add to that the VW parts pricing and reliability reputation and we were sold on the Combo.

They’ve all been great vans and the only issue being some paint that wasn’t up to scratch (pardon the pun). Holden were happy to fix it under warranty.
