Renault Sport revives Gordini name

Gordini – welcome home!

Renault is bringing back the famous French name through its RenaultSport range, starting with the Twingo Gordini RS later this month.

Clio and Megane models are set to follow in 2010.

Taking on other famous reborn identities like Mini’s Cooper and Fiat’s Abarth 500, the Gordini RS range is not about making the hot hatches go any faster, but more about making them stand out.

The white stripes are back, as is the meshed grille, and a wide range of alloy wheels and paint options are set to combine contemporary French flare with a celebration of racing pedigree.

The Gordini name was made famous in the 1950-60s by Amédée Gordini, whose passion and skill for building and tuning racing cars made his name a uniting symbol of French success and triumph.

The Twingo Gordini RS will be officially unveiled in Paris on November 25.

Renault Australia Managing Director, Mr Rudi Koenig, said of plans to bring the Gordini name down under:

“We have a number of actions planned for our Clio RS next year. A Gordini  limited edition is one of these but is not scheduled until  later next year.”

I had good experiences with Gordinis’ when I was a kid. Hope the badge for their performance wing does well. Represents a great fun machine at a modest price, now with heritage.

I guess Renault will go ahead and pull out from Formula 1 and needs some other theme to replace F1 graphics on it RS models.

It is a shame to see Renault decline in Oz, here in ACT there is no Renault dealership at all, all service work is refered to a shawnky agricultural (yes, tractors at the gate) shop at nearby Queanbeyan.

Thats cos in the ACT everyone drives white statesmans don’t they???

Does Renault make a car worth a second look? I’m not incline to think so. The Gordini was an OK car, but nothing to brag about. Please!

Mate, I had a Clio Sport 172 and that was one awesome machine. I sold it after getting a company car. I still miss it, and would recommend it to anyone after a hot hatch.

Maybe if Renault brought in more product they’d sell some! The Twingo, new Megane, Modus, regular Clio, new Scenic, Espace and new Kangoo are all cars that COULD do well here, it’s just Renault Aus is too whussy to do it! Harden up and bring cars that people might actually want, and do it now! :D

How many hot hatch versions are there of the Megane and Clio? Renault does not treat it’s loyal customers fairly, bringing a new model out every week.

I am yet to see a Renault i like the look of.
I mean come on! the front of that thing is a disaster!
