BMW M3 sedan could arrive before coupe
One of our favourite cars here in the CarAdvice office is the ballistic BMW M3. Whether it's the stunning coupe or the practical sedan version, it's a brilliantly engaging drive, which is set to be improved upon by the release of the 2012 model. But in a first for the brand, the four-door M3 could be released before its coupe equivalent.

Brilliant effort but instead of shaving weight by removing creature comforts yet jacking up the price, why won’t BMW simply build a smaller, lighter, lower car with the same engine? Beside an R8 or 911, it’s huge. The previous model CSL has gone as far as knocking on a Ferrari 360′s door at a fraction of the cost, so imagine what a real sports car can do.
It’s simply pushing boundaries. The 3-Series isn’t intended to be a featherweight, at least not anymore. The original E30 M3 worked brilliantly with reasonable mass, great steering and chassis. BMW should hark back to that and work on something like that again, this time with their brilliant array of powerplants.

For me, it’s missing one thing.
The noise.
I know it sounds good for what it’s capable of (the crazy high reving engine).
If you go to a track day, and listen stock for stock, the 63 line of car engines have the best stock exhaust you’ll ever hear on the track (for a V8). All you’ve got to do is hear one blast down the straight on the brakes, on downshift you get the perfect amount of distinct throaty deep V8 burble and just the right amount of crackle and pop that tells you that this isn’t one of HSV’s 6.2′s.
Even by comparison to this light weight M3 GTS, stock for stock, AMG have seriously hit the spot for a stock exhaust (big capacity V8 helps too).
