Rolls-Royce Ghost Hybrid on the drawing board

November 9, 2009 by Matt Brogan

Rolls-Royce is reportedly planning a hybrid version of its all-new Ghost sedan.

The hybrid Ghost, itself based on BMW’s 7 Series platform, will rely heavily on the parent company’s hybrid drivetrain for motivation.

That being the case Ghost Hybrid should retain its (420kW) 6.2-litre V12 engine, albeit mated to an electric motor, and eight-speed automatic transmission. Rough estimates of fuel economy improvements are said to be in the vicinity of 15 per cent.

The electric motor will be powered by a boot-mounted lithium-ion battery pack.

CarAdvice will keep you posted on any developments as they come to hand.

  1. Aim says:

    Why?
The term “hybrid” is becoming a joke in the motor industry!
I mean seriously most people that own or will own these,
    produce their own oil….

  2. Shak says:

Hybrid just means two different propulsion systems either working separately or together to power the car.Not all hybrids have to sound or drive like a Toyota Dyson Vaccum
