2018 Volvo S60 rendered
A speculative rendering of the next-generation 2018 Volvo S60 has been revealed online, giving a glimpse of what the Swedish 3 Series fighter could look like.
Created by Dutch artist Remco Meulendijk, the render envisions the new S60 as a baby version of the recently-launched S90 large sedan.
Volvo is in the process of revamping its ageing model line-up, which started with the XC90 SUV and then the S90/V90 sedan and wagon. According to Meulendijk, the S60 is next in line for the comprehensive facelift, likely to happen sometime in 2017.
Although not mentioned or pictured, the V60 wagon is also likely to get updated alongside its sedan sibling, while the next-generation XC60 SUV has already been spied testing and should also debut sometime next year.
Meulendijk’s design is a very handsome sedan, with the company’s new face and ‘Thor’s hammer’ LED signature running through the headlight clusters.
Large wheels fill the arches, giving the S60 a very athletic and upmarket look, while out back C-shaped LED tail-light strips and square tailpipes complete the Swedish sedan’s clean and premium design.
Little is known about the next-gen S60, though Meulendijk believes it will feature similar technology seen in the S90, including a host of active safety features and autonomous driving systems.
Volvo’s new Drive-E 2.0-litre turbocharged engines are also expected to sit under the bonnet, as the company downsizes its engine range to chase lower fuel consumption and emissions.
An electrically-assisted version of this powertrain – likely to be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) T6 or T8 performance variant – is also likely to be offered with the new model.
No renderings or images of the interior have been released yet, though Volvo will likely offer a version of its new iPad-style infotainment system from the S90/V90/XC90, along with more premium materials to better compete with its German rivals.

The next-generation S60 will be one piece of the Swedish brand’s renaissance under its new Chinese ownership, which will see it offer more premium products to compete with established luxury marques like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
2017 should be a big year for Volvo, with the new ‘60 Series’ models (S60/V60/XC60) expected to be revealed, along with production versions of the smaller ‘40 Series’ concepts that were revealed in May, which previewed the next S40 and V40, along with a new XC40 baby SUV that is expected to launch either late next year or early in 2018.
