Hyundai scores highest-ever October sales result

By Matt Brogan |

As the Australian new car market shows signs of recovery, Hyundai have secured another record for the brand selling 6,281 vehicles and achieving a market share of 7.8 per cent.

Sales for October 2009 were up 106 per cent over the same time last year – giving Hyundai its best ever October result.

In a total market that has decreased 11.7 per cent (October YTD 2009 vs. October YTD 2008), Hyundai remains the only volume brand to grow sales in 2009 (October YTD), posting ten consecutive months of year-on-year growth and an overall increase of sales of 42 per cent YTD.

Hyundai Motor Company’s global sales increased 6.9 per cent (October YTD 2009 vs. October YTD 2008).

    Good work Hyundai!
Perception is turning. Keep up the innovation and giving customers quality and value.

  • Jo

GO HYUNDAI!!!! Bring on the ix35 and YF Sonata and watch the sales skyrocket even more :D

  • DE

Lookout Mazda, the title of “Australia’s number one selling import only company” is looking shakey.

  • ManualsOnly

Dear CA, get your facts straight before claiming that ‘Hyundai remains the only volume brand to grow sales in 2009 (October YTD)’.

Just a quick look at VFACTS I can see SKODA is also up 42% (October YTD) and there are others, I accept that they are ‘minor’ car manufactures but please try to be accurate in your excitement and maintain some level of journalistic accuracy.

Or this article just a cut and paste from a Hyundai press release ??

    • DE

CA said “volume” brand. Skoda is at least 3-5 years away from that tag, if they indeed do last that long.

    • Mazdaman

If skodas where volume sellers then the salespeople and employees of skoda Australia wouldn’t have so much time on their hands to try sabotaging these comments with lame attempts at viral marketing their poorly performing products

Yoor absolutely correct in your comments…I still see 2007 stocks sitting aroung in dealerships

Sad situation for the floorplan and dealership…give me a well built, stylish and reliable Japanese car over a Skoda anyday.

        • Tomas79

What would you know. You wouldn’t know what a skoda is like if it ran you over!

        • Mazdaman

I don’t get the point of skoda, its just recycled VW tech made by cheap labour.
Why not just buy the original? The golfs out of germany are awesome quality, they can match or better the top japanese quality. (The golfs from south africa where a mistake)

2007? buy a ‘new’ car with 2 years depreciation built into it.

Back on topic, well done Hyundai, there is a smart company!

          • Tomas79

Actually Skoda is reputed to be better built, more practical then most VW cars, not to mention better looking!!

        • Independance Man

Its time you all stopped being badge snobs and looked at the product. Yes mud sticks but it also washes off. In the 60s & 70s most cars had rust on them after two three years its now 2009. Quality grows with experience, research and finance.

  • Tiburon

    On ya’ Hyundai!
Bought my first Hyundai in 2007 and will never look back.

It’s great to have a car manufacturer continually developing and producing great products and designs. Unlike most European brands who’s new models are practically clones of the previous models…

  • spellbound

Yes how many comments are actually from the public , sometimes i think its just a bunch of dealers lackeys ploughing the fields with tripe .

    • Gary

well there is no argument with the sales figure, right?

  • sammo

well done hyundai, they’ve worked hard for this over the years so they deserve it. I think they have finally found the right balance between value and quality, pity the same can’t be said for other Korean manufacturers…

    • Fernando

Which other manufacturer are you talking about? Ssangyong and Daewoo? Hopeless Ssangyong is owned by Chinese (Shanghai Motors) and Daewoo is owned by Americans(GM). Hyundai-Kia is only one car manufacturer which is purely Korean.

      • observer

Kia is doing well with great value and stylish cars….I like their new Sorento Turbo Diesel 6 speed Auto.

        • Tomas79

They are ugly and over priced. Not to mention bad quality.

          • Wheelnut

Spoken like someone who is worried that their beloved car manufacturers position at the top is [or could be] under threat from a company that they don’t regard to be an equal let alone a competitor… its what’s commonly known as arrogance/ignornace

          • Tomas79

Oh yeah tell me how good holdaewoo is?

      • Jay

As far as I understand, SAIC doesn’t have a stake at Ssang yong anymore

  • UK

…And Renault Samsung is owned by Renault :)

    • Jay

Quite right – they pay a royalty to Samsung to use the name Samsung

  • Tomas79

For the RECORD guys, I haven’t said anything on this site so far, It’s just the toad Bavarian Missile imitating me!!!

    • Reckless1

Don’t flatter yourself – why would anyone try and imitate you????

Having purchased a diesel Santa Fe in June this year,my first suv and Hyundai,I just love the vehicle. After the 1000 km service, connected the 16 ft Regent caravan and headed around the block. We have completed 20596km and am totally convinced that the decision to go Hyundai was correct. We travelled with Territory, six speed autos,Pajero diesels, auto and toyota cruiser,5 speed manual petrol.
Had two services Seven thousand, oil and filter change at Broome.Esperence had 15000 service.Nothing has fallen off,no repairs were needed, had a wheel alignment as many k,s of dirt were encounted. The drivers of the above vehicles all drove the Hyundai,to see why I raved about it,and were all surprised as to how well it drove. The fuel consumption was 12 14lts per 100km,s,depending on the headwind.this was by the best of all the vehicles in the convoy. The petrol vehicles recorded up to 23 25 lires per 100km.The Pajero’s were aroud 15 19 l/100km,s.Now I will have a test drive of the soon to be released Santer Fe with 6 speed auto and extra 80 odd nm of torque.I only used fourth gear for the trip, being new engine etc.Yes I am very pleased with my Hyundai and understand why the sales figures are as good as the are.
