If we pile a number of floor mats on the drivers side of most vehicles, you can impair the operation of the gas pedal. It is common sense to keep the space under the gas pedal free of obstruction. We now have a corolla and have had 6 japanese vehicles and never had a problem. When i was young i had a thick floor mat hold the gas pedal of my USA made truck in the run position, i merely bent down and pulled the mat away from the pedal-----and learned about too thick floor mats

ps---my wife has the corolla and i have always had a USA made truck. BOTH are excellent vehicles.
