2017 Honda Civic Hatch revealed, due for Australia early next year – UPDATE

UPDATE: More pictures of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatch - yes, it has a capital H, according to Honda - have been added. Initially, only the rear had been revealed.

The eagerly-awaited 2017 Honda Civic Hatch has officially broken cover in the US ahead of its Australian debut set for early next year.

While leaked images of the car surfaced out of Europe last week, this is the first official photo of the car that was revealed as the Civic Hatchback Prototype during March's Geneva motor show.

“Like the Civic sedan, the Honda Civic Hatch will be a very important car in the Honda line-up in Australia,” Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said.

“In the small car segment in Australia, hatches reign, so we expect the Honda Civic Hatch to be a relevant option for Honda customers looking for the versatility of a hatch but with the proven quality, style and performance of a Honda.”

Collins added that Australian delivered Civic hatches will offer the same interior and features as the new Civic sedan.

The hatch model line-up will also mirror Honda’s current sedan line-up with both the normally aspirated 1-8-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged engine available from early 2017.

Additionally, the hatch will feature the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assist technologies including: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS); Forward Collision Warning (FCW); Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – with Low Speed Follow (LSF); Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS); and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).

AppleCarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, electric driver and front passenger seats and push-button engine start will also be available.

Jointly developed by Honda in Europe and Japan primarily for the US market, the Civic hatch will be manufactured in the UK at Honda’s manufacturing base in Swindon.

Down the track, the Type-R derivative will be based on the hatch as well.

Australian pricing is still to be confirmed. Read the pricing and specifications of the Honda Civic sedan here to get a rough idea of what to expect from the hatch derivative.
