2016 Fiat 500X prices cut, new drive-away starting price added – UPDATE

Australian prices for the 2016 Fiat 500X SUV have this week been reduced by as much as $2000 to better compete with its more popular Japanese rivals.

The sharper prices should help the alla moda 500X grab a slightly larger share of the small SUV pie, with only 29 finding homes in July and 333 year to date. By comparison, the Mazda CX-3 sold 1744 units in July alone.

Now starting at $26,000 drive-away for the base 500X Pop manual this month, Fiat has slashed $2000 from the entry point of the range, putting it in direct contention with the Honda HR-V and Mitsubishi ASX - both $24,990 plus on-road costs.

The Mazda CX-3 remains the price leader and sales leader, though, starting at $19,990 plus on-roads for the base Neo manual.

Standard on the entry-level Pop are 16-inch alloy wheels, 3.5-inch TFT driver information display, air-conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather multifunction steering wheel, steering-mounted paddle shifters (dual-clutch auto only), 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth.

Further up in the range, the Pop Star, Lounge and off-road styled Cross Plus variants have all seen $1000 reductions, starting at $32,000 (FWD auto), $37,000 (AWD auto) and $38,000 (AWD auto) plus ORCs respectively.

Powering the 500X range is a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 103kW/230Nm in the Pop and Pop Star models and 125kW/250Nm in the Lounge and Cross Plus variants.

A six-speed manual transmission is offered on the Pop, while a six-speed dual-clutch transmission is optional on the entry-level variant and standard on the Pop Star, while a nine-speed automatic is standard on across the Lounge and Cross Plus.

Both the Pop and Pop Star send power to the front wheels, while the Lounge and Cross Plus come standard with all-wheel drive.
