2017 Skoda Kodiaq teased again, September 1 debut confirmed:: video

Skoda has teased its upcoming Kodiaq SUV once again, this time in a short video and a set of tightly cropped images.

The Czech brand says the seven-seat Kodiaq will make its global debut on 1 September in Berlin, Germany, ahead of the previously-speculated debut at the Paris motor show in October.

In the teaser images, it appears Skoda’s competitor to the likes of the Toyota Kluger and Mazda CX-9 will look fairly similar to the Vision S electric SUV concept revealed in Geneva earlier this year, retaining the show car’s two-tier headlight design, wrap-around tail-lights and central bonnet hump.

The Kodiaq wears the familiar Skoda ‘moustache’ front grille, while the headlights and LED signature look pretty similar to the units seen on the closely-related Superb.

Also shown in the images and video are the Kodiaq’s alloy wheels with an Audi-like 10-spoke raked star-shape design, which looks to be a more practical interpretation of the much larger set on the Vision S.

Last month Skoda released teaser images and footage of a heavily-camouflaged Kodiaq prototype, along with some initial details of the SUV's powertrains.

The company says the Kodiaq will have best-in-class luggage capacity of 720 to 2065 litres, a surround camera system (a first for the brand), and will be offered with five engines - two turbo diesels and three turbo petrols - along with the option of front- and all-wheel drive.

So far, the only confirmed engine is the 132kW 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol fitted to numerous Volkswagen Group models, which Skoda says will be the “most powerful” petrol powerplant in the range - casting doubt on whether the SUV will be offered with the 206kW 2.0-litre turbo from the Superb.

Inside, Skoda says the Kodiaq will feature class-leading infotainment systems, which will offer a WiFi hotspot, internet connectivity, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, depending on grade.

While no images have been released yet showing the Kodiaq’s interior, expect the SUV to borrow heavily from the Superb’s interior design.

In June, the brand’s local boss said the Kodiaq will arrive in Australia next August, a year before the smaller next-generation Yeti is scheduled to hit our shores.
