Firstly: Why am I looking at this car?
A: The essential reason is that I'm after a city based run about. I want to be able to park with ease, perform tight maneovuers and not have the gas guzzling mayhem of a larger vehicle when over half of it is wasted pumping CO2 into the atmosphere while waiting for traffic. To be honest I'm more interested in the electric version due to be released shortly but that's another story.

As others have mentioned, for the Australian market this car may not fair well. Just like the SMART car I was considering one until the ludicrious price ticket was unveiled. It seems the same would be the case with this vehicle.

Why would I pay 20K+ for a car like this when I can get a YARIS (about 12K brand new) or a trusty faithful Corolla (about $15K). The answer: I wouldn't. The value is simply not there. It is not cool to be cramped, we do it to save dollars only. (Which has got me beat why people are going for SMART cars or even Mini's when you can get a Diahatsu Charade for far far less).

Some will say performance but honestly this high price for small cars annoys me. Personally I'd like to see all 4WD's and vehicles over 2.0 litres off the road. There simply not necessary and just performing this simple action would reduce emissions by a scary amount.

At one stage it was made clear the damage were causing to the environment and the world just went all Top Gear and US, going for the largest most unneccesary vehicles it could pump out and grab.

Finally cars that are more suited to the times arrive and what happens, they cost more than standard models of greater value.

When will a manufacturer bring something out that's environmentally friendly, economical and attractive for the majority user of vehicles, the day to day worker.

and what exactly does this car do that is so much better than a Swift?

You don't have to sardine can people in the back of a Swift? Does the Swift take up more parking space? Is it harder to park?

This is a free country... Toyota can sell what they like but to me, this car is a giant waste of time. I'd rather have a Ford Focus or something that isn't so compromised in every possible way for so little gain.

"No place for one in Australia", get real most of your population live in cities and towns where car don't go much more than 40K's average speed. This thing is made for it. I can just imagine all the yuppies in St Kilda having one to run the Coles once a week; it will look good witha 6ft thruster on the roof!!

in australia there is no need for a car this small? this might work in rome or japan where there's much higher density but in australia i don't see the need for a car smaller than a swift or yaris or fiesta

even these cars i think are smaller than need be... something i30 or civic is as small as practicality allows... ie. 4 adults and enough to swallow a few suitcases

I love this car and really want one. I hope Toyota Australia import this!
Australia always get stock standard cars with standard boring options (conservative). Europe and Asia have so much more variation / production car to choose from. Wake up Australia.....!!!!!

I really like this car, and if I lived in Japan I would certainly pick this. But i think it doesn't suit the Australian market...the yaris is small enough already.

Matt Brogan, did you have a good time at Odaiba?

Jay,
We did not get the Cappa here but I agree a little RWD that with a few mods could get that turbo 3 cylinder keeping up with the big boys. The Copen is a bit ordinary in comparison.
