Maybe this could replace the Pasaat downunder and take up a position beneath the Phaeton in the US. It looks ok but the price may be crazy.

People are missing the point. In the USA the (Mexican made) Jetta is the big seller, outselling the Golf – Americans just don’t relate to hatches – most of the Japanese brand American made cars are sedans. not hatches. Just look at the Corolla.

This new car is a US market only product – won’t replace the Passat in Europe where that car has a big part of the official car/taxi/corporate car market – many more sales than the opposition Peugeot/Laguna/Mondeo/Insignia – at least outside Britain.

I belive that this car will be larger than the Passat but less premium, not a car slotting between the Jetta and Passat, aimed at the US market only while leaving passat to do its thing in Europe.

Finaly, VW should take on Toyota head on and leave the premium stuff to Audi
Considering they are ment to be the peoples car.
Design looks GREAT, nice clean lines… kinda like a new version of the old passat. The current one is FUGLY.. way to fussy and overdone.
They should take a step further and make this the new passat.
The current Passat is too pricy to be a real player..its stuck in a no mans land between Mondeo man and BMW suits.
Its about time the german maufacturer took on the almighty camary.
Good luck to them!
Oh and an all wheel drive, TSI engined sprots version would be awsome.

If VW do indeed go ahead with this new model, we may find that the standard Passat will be dropped and the Passat CC will then become the Passat.

The new vehicle will then fit in just under the current “standard” Passat and will be priced a few $K below the current standard Passat. The standard Passat will then be upscaled to the CC and will remain priced at the CC Price, or may even drop a few thousand $K to give it a competitive advanatage against the Mercedes C class, BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS series etc. i.e the CC will be then become the standard Passat or vice versa.
