There should be no comparison between the i30 and this car, one is for the budget conscience buyer and the other for people who are willing to spend more to get a car which meets their expectations and standards. The Hyundai is very good for the price and the Volkswagen is VERY good for it's price! If most people bought the Hyundai and no the golf then there are many buyers out there who use price and perhaps reliability as the most important criteria, that phenomena shoulds awfully boring to me.

Great car. For those of you out there that are comparing the quality of a Golf to an i30, read on.

Ive had an i30 for just over 12 months. The build quality & engineering are a step forward for Hyundai - but still a long way behind VW or Toyota, Mazda, etc. My car has already started developing a few rattles (the diesel engine makes some interior trim rattle upon acceleration) and the plastics (apart from the dash) are looking and feeling old...cant wait for changeover time.

I never thought solely that economy was the be it and end it when purchasing a car, there are other major things to consider. A good plug in for the times of fuel awareness but other than that its a Golf with less poke and would be boring as hell to drive! A Gti on the other hand......................

"Imaging what they (VW) are currenlty busy working on in the lab"

How to turn percieved build quality into reliability? I think VW are 10 years behind Hyundai on that one!
