Toyota FT-86 spied testing at Nurburgring
October 26, 2009 by Matt Brogan
While the Toyota FT-86 concept is on display at Tokyo Motor Show this week, testing for the production model has already begun with a downright bizarre looking mule lapping the Nurburgring.
Identified by our European spies as a FT-86 mule, this development car appears to be one car in the front and a totally different car from the B-pillar, back. The air diffuser that looks to be made from tape and cardboard sitting atop the boot lid is our favourite part!
When this car starts production in Japan towards the end of 2011, it will be powered by a 2.0-litre Subaru Boxer engine and be rear-wheel-drive.

WOW thats ugly…. hope it looks better without the camo on.
Heavily styled by Subaru methinks. Very close to an Impreza IMHO and no doubt a chassis, engine and running gear test mule. Probably running all the shard components that will be seem in the 86 and the Subaru branded equivilent… but definately wearing a Subaru skin here, no?
Isn’t that the Subaru version??

The rear lights are 100% Impreza sedan and you can notice on the rear bumper they have those ugly fake grill inserts (same as impreza sedan).
Me thinks they are using the sedan as a test mule.
Yep, is the Subaru version. CA don’t spend enough time trawling auto web sites. This came to the surface about three weka ago
no that can’t be the ft-86
It’s a chopped up Impreza sedan with an STI front bumper… this IS NOT the final design!
This should be promising…
Isn’t this the Toyobaru?…LOL
Either way, this is gonna be one ugly car. Neither Toyota nor Subaru have a decent looking car in their range, so I won’t be holding my breath.
In terms of handling? Well I saw a youtube vid of this on the nurburg and it looked horrible.
Haha, you have no idea what you are talking about.
This is the ‘Toyobaru’ aka FT-86.

Nevermind that Nick Senior has said it will not be coming to Australia as a Subaru. Just because it won’t have AWD, he doesn’t think it will work here. Idiot.
Grey market imports of Subaru version will be huge. The Subaru badge has more street cred than the ‘yota badge.
