Honda reveals another toy-inspired stand for Goodwood festival

Japanese car maker Honda has revealed the design of its stand for next weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, paying tribute to the popular Fisher Price toy garage of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

After arriving at last year’s Goodwood Festival with a stand dubbed the ‘Honda Playset’ - which featured an assortment of Honda cars in over-sized toy boxes - the brand has once again given us a childhood flashback with an interpretation of the red toy garage that so many owned and loved.

Standing at 10 metres tall, Honda’s ‘toy’ garage features three brightly-coloured red and yellow floors, a vehicle ramp and an accompanying tower - just like the original toy garage that was last offered in the mid '80s.

The turning handle on the garage’s second level also makes a comeback, while the lift in the tower has been replaced with two floors which will feature several different vehicles.

On the first floor, the Honda stand will feature a Jazz, HR-V, an iconic Africa Twin motorcycle along with the McLaren Formula One car. Meanwhile, the second floor will feature another Africa Twin motorbike and be reserved as an invite-only VIP area.

The ground floor of the toy garage stand will host the Honda Fireblade Isle of Man TT motorcycle, a Civic Type R, Civic Sport, CR-V, HR-V and the new NSX - marking the first occasion the UK public can get up close and personal with the new supercar.

Although visitors can’t speed down the ramp like the glory days of the toy version, Honda’s ramp will be the home of a Honda RC213V-S motorcycle and the 2016 Honda Civic British Touring Car.

Philip Crossman, managing director for Honda UK, said: “As with last year’s award-winning stand designed around children’s toy cars, Honda has yet again steered away from the conventional corporate boxes favoured by the competition and come up with an eye-catching, fun and highly evocative stand design”.

The 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from June 23-26, and as always will feature a massive line-up of legendary cars and drivers, young and old.
